Bobby Beat 2005 v6: Washington trades for Lance Dickson

Post by jiminyhopkins » Wed May 23, 2012 6:53 am

Washington, DC--

For the first time in years, the phrase "Washington Bobwhites Starting Rotation" can be uttered while keeping a straight face.

In a deal that takes from a strength to address a weakness, the Bobs dealt closer James Endres to the Carolina Kraken in exchange for veteran lefty Lance Dickson. The emergence of 2001 first round pick Chad Jordan to the back end of the major league bullpen made it possible to send the 27 year old Endres, he of 150 career saves, to the Frick League in order to bolster the starting rotation. It's a rotation that now includes Chip Foodie, Oscar Funke, Dickson, Ron Burgundy, and Dominick Bromley. It's a rotation that, when coupled with Washington's high powered offense, could signal the emergence of the club into the JL playoff picture. Yes, we said playoffs!

But how much of an addition can a guy who had a 7 ERA for the Kraken really be? Lance Dickson has not kept his marked displeasure with the Carolina situation a secret. He had recently demanded a trade when, in one of those "what the heck" type offers, The Bobs proposed the 1 for 1 swap. A team official summed it up as such: "We scouted out Dickson pretty good. We know about the shoulder issue from last season, but when you look at his stuff he hasn't really lost any more than you would expect from a 34 year old. In fact, given his peripherals, we would expect and ERA closer to 5 than above 7. So we definitely feel that, given our situation, Lance would quickly get on board with our playoff push and give us the results we know he is capable of."

For his career, Lance Dickson is 122-94 with a 3.98 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 1900 innings.

Not if Greenville has anything to say about that!

Dickson doesn't work as a starter.
