Bobby Beat 2004 v4: Injuries: They're Kind of a Big Deal.

Washington, DC--

The Bobwhites as a franchise are no strangers to the injury bug. After what must have been some kind of a record for injuries in 2001, the next two seasons had been relatively quiet. But 2004 is already getting off to an ominous start:

Burgundy, Clarke on the Shelf
RF Mike Clarke is on the DL after hurting his knee while running the bases, and the most recent victim is free agent pickup SP Ron Burgundy, who left April 14th's game after 12 pitches and will miss over a month with a sore elbow. This, after star 3B Paco Morales missed nearly all of Spring Training with a sore elbow of his own. Paco has yet to bounce back from an understandably slow start to the season.

Who's On First, Redux
What's this? 1B Neil McKinney, passed over for the Opening Day start at first base, has worked to regain a good deal of his former awesomeness. Witness this production, over a mere 21 at bats in nine games as a part timer: 10 hits, 9 runs scored, 7 HR, and 11 RBI!! Needless to say, Awesome Mac will be starting at 1B going forward, much to the delight of the fans. Oh, and Neil's supposed replacement? Former 1st round pick Darius Campbell, Jr. has struggled to the tune of a .245/.327/.367 in his first 17 games.

Power Surge
In one of the better rookie seasons in MBBA history, LF Jim Wilson captured the JL NOY trophy after hitting 43 homers. Now, only three weeks into the season, Wilson leads the entire league with 10 home runs, 7 of them coming in his last 9 games. The Bobs were counting on someone to step up and lead the offense after the departure of Thumper Moronobu, and Wilson has proven more than adequate to the task thus far.

Look for the long rumored Louisville Slugger team preview later today!

Please have him report to the medical clinic for a steroid check.

Indeed....that's pretty good for a guy who's supposedly just a 1-star player, a shadow of his former self. Hmmmm....
