Battling among the elite in the Heartland is a difficult task, but the Bluebirds have remained competitive throughout the past few seasons despite not breaking through into the playoffs. They thought 2045 was the year, then the Twin Cities River Monsters brokered their future in an attempt to buy a ring. That didn’t work out too well for their team, but they were good enough to keep the Bluebirds just out of the playoffs. Once again, it looked like the next year would be the year.
2046 was a make or break year for Nashville, but expectations were they would once again compete for a wild card spot in the Frick League, especially with the emergence of budding star, Barney Lindsay. However, as fate would have it, those dreams turned into a terrible reality with a 7-20 record in April. Rather than beat around the bush and pretend to have the ability to overcome an early deficit and miraculously run the table on the Heartland, GM Chad Nason went into sell mode to look forward to the future.
The first move was offloading star CF Kidane Ata to the Las Vegas Hustlers for a package of promising prospects. Two weeks later, beloved stopper Lorenzo de’ Medici was sent to the Portland Lumberjacks for more prospects. OF Gipper Kengos and 2B Jesús Yan were sold for cash and in an attempt to field a respectable team in 2047, the team acquired Juan Cerda for former first round pick, Bill Meadows in a deadline deal.
With a final record of 69-83, their fewest win total since 2035, the Bluebirds look to the future. Loaded with a top five farm system, Nashville is looking forward to the future. Star 3B Tony Frost is entering his final season under contract with Nashville and his extension should be top on Nason’s priority list. With a solid rotation and looming prospects, the Bluebirds don’t appear to be in too much trouble and should only be a couple savvy moves away from ending their playoff drought.
