Bobby Beat 1999 v1: Bobbies Beset with Booboos

Washington, DC--

GM Sean V. Marko's first few weeks at the helm of the Bobs hasn't gone as smooth as he might have liked, the current 8-10 record not withstanding.

In the second inning of April 9th's game vs. Baltimore, veteran RF Terry Blass felt a strange pop in his arm on a routine throw back to the infield. The 33 year old was off to a tremendous start, hitting .379/.471/.586 at the time. "It's just one of those things," Blass said. "I mean I must have thrown it in thousands of times. Who'da thunk it??" Blass is reported to miss at least a couple more weeks with a bicep strain.

The very next game, in another loss to the Monarchs, SS Thumper Monorobu led off the game with a rope to the gap. He made the turn and sprinted toward second, only to be met by the Baltimore defender with his glove in front of the bag. Monorobu attempted to reach around the tag, but in so doing jammed his wrist into the corner of the base as he was tagged on the forearm. He was out, but more importantly he had fractured his wrist on the play and will miss nearly two months.

The Bobwhites mercifully made it through the next three whole games without incident. Whew!

But then came April 15th's game vs. California. The Bobs' Aussie 2B Matt Burgoon was injured in yet another hard slide into second base. He will miss up to a month with a strained intercostal muscle. So this makes three injuries to members of the Washington starting lineup in 6 days. All in front of the home fans no less!

In other news, GM Sean Marko recieved an angry text message from AAA Montgomery Admirals closer James Endres. "Apparently young Mr. Andres was slightly pissed in his role as closer for our fine AAA club in Alabama," GM Marko said. "Well here's your big chance, hotshot. I just demoted SP Scott Mingle and his 8.76 ERA to the Admirals. That means that you get the call to the bigs so you can put your money where your text is."

Endres will take his place in the Washington bullpen, as current reliever Jimu Harunobu (6 hits allowed and 14 K's in 10 innings) will get a chance to start in place of the departed Mingle.

Stay Tuned for further updates. Go Bobs!

So nice to have a presence on the Bobwhites again. Thumper is one heck of a player to build around, so that's nice.

Nice to see Hopkins back, even if he is running Lorenz's team ;)
