Bobby Beat 1999 v2: Pitching Perilous, Stars Sidelined
Washington, DC--
The news continues to get worse for the beleagured Bobwhites of DC.
Two more injuries in the past week...this time two of the Bobs biggest stars are on the shelf. During the 4th inning of May 25th's game, CF Danny Fabiano ran down a liner to the gap and dove for it....He got up, but slowly, and will miss 3 weeks with a strained oblique. Three days later, on the 28th, The Bobs were in sunny Hawaii and the offense was pouring it on. 1B Neil McKinney was already 2 for 3 on the day with a run scored and 2 RBI, when he too went down with a strained intercostal muscle. GM Sean V. Marko must have surely offended The Baseball Gods somehow, but enough is enough!
Speaking of enough, thats about how much Marko has had with his pitching staff. In fact, about the only success of late has been recorded by recent callups Jose Garcia, George Winter, and especially 21 year old closer prospect James Endres. Endres has recorded a 3.43 ERA and a .243 OAvg with 21 Ks in 21 innings. In fact, the young 100 MPH fireballer's initial performance has caused rumblings in DC that 25 year old lefty closer Brendan Meyer and his 10 saves may possibly be on the trading block in order to get some rotation help.
The JL Player of the Week award was recently given to Washington 3B George Goutones, who has been smokin hot with the bat of late. The free swinging 28 year old at one point hit 5 homers in 6 games this most recent sim, and will take over at cleanup while McKinney (who himself posted a 1.253 OPS for the sim before he went down) is on the mend.
As the club gets ready for the June Draft and its two first round picks therein, Bobwhite management has been busy negotiating with the club's two most important FA pitchers, veteran ace Ken Howell and right hander Shane Christen, on contract extensions. Howell, 38, has reportedly been offered a one year deal that could pay him up to 8 figures for the 2000 season, while Christen, 10 years younger but just as successful, is discussing a 6 year pact that is rumored to approach the 40 million dollar level.
Stay Tuned for further updates, including a breakdown of the Bobs' selections in the 1999 Amateur Draft!

Howell is probably worth 8 figures for a year.

Wow, Wilson's in here too? I guess getting beat up regularly in the GBC wasn't enough...
Washington, eh? I'll start calling you "Justin 2" (get it? rhymes with "Justin Q")

I can never like the Washington Bobwhites. I hated them so much in the GBC because of Lorenz that I will always hate any fantasy league team stationed in Washington. Especially ones named the Bobwhites. I think Lorenz won the division 20 of the 25 seasons I was in that league.salas wrote:Wow, Wilson's in here too? That's why I was happy to replace Gates with mediocrity.7teen wrote:I can never like the Washington Bobwhites. You can't get much more mediocre than me. I'm sure if you add up all of my records throughout all of my online fantasy baseball ventures, I'm probably an even .500! I do have 2 GBC titles to my name, though those feel like ages ago.KCCardinalFan wrote:That's why I was happy to replace Gates with mediocrity.7teen wrote:I can never like the Washington Bobwhites. I remember you having a nice run with the Reds in the mid-70s as well.7teen wrote: You can't get much more mediocre than me. Id have nice runs either before or after terrible runs. All in all, my records always balanced out to roughly .500. In the GBC, I had about 5-6 90+ win seasons, but I also had a few 60 win seasons as well. In the ORB2, I had 3 playoff runs, but also had some 60-70 win seasons there as well.KCCardinalFan wrote:I remember you having a nice run with the Reds in the mid-70s as well.7teen wrote: You can't get much more mediocre than me. I think I'll have more success in my 2nd go around here, but only because Gates has handed me an awesome team. If things were fair, I'd be trying to fix the mess I left in Long Beach for Moonie.
