Bobby Beat 2006 v1: DC Native Son is Bobbies' R1 Pick

Post by jiminyhopkins » Wed Jul 25, 2012 11:05 am

Washington, DC--

The Bobs today have announced their intention to draft 18 year old SP Christopher Pump, Jr. with the 9th overall pick in this June's amateur draft. Pump is a native of the nation's capital.

After speaking with Pump's agent, it was determined that the young hurler, projected to be an ace caliber starter if all goes well, is thrilled to return home, and should be an easy sign for the Bobwhites. "Signability was a big concern for us, especially with a high school player. We just want to get Chris signed and playing rookie ball as soon as possible. We were not going to accept a situation where an 18 year old is going to demand a major league deal," GM Sean Marko said.

He continued: "There were a ton of good outfielders in this draft, but we are pretty much set at that position with guys like Jacob Bryant, Danny Orr, and Monty Cunningham. There is also a third baseman we really had our eye on, Doug Glover. However, after speaking with his agent, we are of the understanding that Mr. Glover would have been a hard sign for the club."

All is not rosy, however. Despite projections of stardom at the top of a ML rotation someday, there are reports that Pump's personality profile is not as desirable as it could be. The club, however, expressed optimism that Pump would be able to benefit from a number of programs designed to mold him into a more well-rounded ballplayer and teammate. "We are positive that the baseball culture here in DC will do nothing but benefit young Mr. Pump and help him become the best he can be. We are frankly thrilled that a player of his caliber was there waiting for us at #9," GM Marko said.

I really liked this pick. His stuff and movement is pretty developed for an 18 year old but his control needs a bump... and his personality...

My first custom ammy creation. Son of Christopher Pump. Pump wasn't much in this league but was a legend in the GBC.
