Bobby Beat 2004 v8: July Players of the Month

Post by jiminyhopkins » Sun Apr 01, 2012 11:44 pm

Washington, DC:

Well that sucked.

July was probably the worst month in the 4 years of the current GM's term, with the club staggering its way to a 6-20 record. Nearly every pitching metric of note plummeted to 12th in the JL, and the run differential stands at -96. This, coming from a pitching staff that should at least, by most accounts, be somewhat kinda halfway decent. Ha Ha, not quite.

The All Star Game came and went, and Washington once again sent a lone representative, being LF Jim Wilson who once again got a single at bat. Later in the month, high priced replacement level 1B Neil McKinney was dealt to a contender for a minor pitching prospect, clearing the way for former 7th overall pick Darius Campbell, Jr. to finally play in the bigs full time.

But it was of no consequence, as by the end of July, no less than 7 Washington pitchers (3 of them starters) were listed on the "Who's Not" list. Yeah, tell us something we don't know.

Starter of the Month

Ron Burgundy
July was kind of a big deal for Burgundy, as he finally earned some of the big contract the Bobs so generously gave him last offseason. In a very positive turn of events following his early season injury, Anchorman was 2-2 with a 2.82 ERA and 33 K's in 38 IP. Stay Classy!

Reliever of the Month
Image
NOBODY. NOT A SINGLE DAMN ONE OF THEM.
Wow. Not a single reliever had an ERA under five, and many had one in the double digits. What a Joke.

Infielder of the Month
Image
Darius Campbell, Jr.
This is how sad things have gotten: Here's a dude who only played full time in the final third of the month, recording 44 AB. And he "wins" with his .407 average, 4 homers, and 8 big RBI. Just, wow.

Outfielder of the Month
Image
Mike "OBP 'Ivan De' Jesus" Clarke
Mike is so hardcore that his nickname has a nickname. He was also hardcore at the plate, hitting .404 in 99 at bats while hitting 6 homers and driving in 18 out of the leadoff spot. Clarke wins over 11-HR-hitting Jim Wilson because that Derek Holland wannabe struck out 10 more times and hit 100 points lower than Clarke did.

Injury Report
Backup infielder Nasir Jones is still out with a concussion until September at the earliest.
Starter/Reliever Chester "Word" Palabra is out for 7 weeks with a nondescript injury that is believed to be some sort of Mental Breakdown. Funny, that's happening to a lot of fans and front office personnel too. Huh.
