Slug This...The Hopkins Era...2009 3.20 Wordsworth beats

"That'll teach that Yin-Yang,"GM Hopkins happily announced to reporters.

GM Hopkins was of course discussing the fourth inning beat down of Baltimore starting pitcher, Yin-xiang Yi, by Louisville designated hitter, Bill Wordsworth.

Yi, apparently angered at having given up a long homerun to rookie Slugger Sam Sung on the previous pitch, nailed Wordsworth in the back with his very next pitch. Wordsworth took exception, and raced to the mound, beating the hapless Monarch pitcher to a pulp.

"Notice, how slow the Monarchs were getting out there, to pull Bill off of Yi? I guess he's not well liked in that clubhouse either,"GM Hopkins smiled.

Indeed, players on both teams were slow to move to the mound, as Wordsworth nailed Yi several times to the head and face, first driving the hapless pitcher to his knees, before slamming his knee into the defenceless pitcher's face.

"I had to draw the line when Bill tried to 'curb him' on the pitching rubber,"explained GM Hopkins,"That's when I had my guys go out there and pull him off."

Both players received an incredible 11game suspension for the 'fight', the league apparently taking a dimview of an incident that almost spiralled out of control.

"Its easy to forget these two guys were teammates the past three seasons,"explained GM Hopkins,"Apparently, they didn't think too much of eachother then, either."

"If you're going to lose all self-control when you give up a homerun, maybe you don't have the right make-up to be a successful pitcher,"finished GM Hopkins,"But...after that beatdown...I don't think we'll see Yi pull that stunt again."

Wordsworth is eligible to come back to the Slugger lineup on June 15 in Vancouver, against the hated Mounties.

I was at the game and that's not how I remember it going down... did Yi happen to deliver one of his deadly kung fu roundhouse kick's the GM's head as well? I suppose that would explain the Latrobe trade... if only the chronology of events had allowed for that excuse...

yeah...teh more I think about that trade, the more I regret it!

Luckily, after ten sesons in the basement...we have lots of other pitching prospects!

Interesting that the final score of that game is not mentioned in this article...
