Slug This...The Hopkins Era 2007 2.18 September Awards

Ah September...the month where you finally admit you suck, and you grab all of the suspects in AAA and throw them up against the MBBA competition to see if any of them will stick.

Then disapointed, realising your minior league cupboard is bare, you slink away, to cry...

Batter of the month

This one was tough, tough because by all rights this award should go again to Devin Clark and his amazing 2008. But poor Joe Ellis, struggling through his worse ever professional year of his career, righted his stats for the first half of September...and then succumbed to season ending injury. Poor Poor Joe...Hey, where you going with that gun in your hand? Seriously, someone stop him, don't leave him alone! .345/.368/.545/.914 with 7 doubles and 2 triples in only 55 at-bats.

Starter of the month

I was looking forward to this; we had three AAA all-star starters this season. Three. Lets bring em all up in September and see if they're ready for the Show! And what the hell, lets grab that old relic off of waivers too, should be good for some laughs. Unfortunatley for Louisville, the waiver claim guy, Bilbo Bilboa greatly outperformed the 'future' of Louisville with a 3.38 ERA over 4 starts, (2 wins and a loss), with 26 innings. I think one of the kids had an ERA under six over 5 starts. Great job!

Reliever of the month

This award almost went to me, because I was greatly relieved the season was over! But, I can't see next season being any better, so I'm greatly depressed again. But give Jeff Hartle his due, he performed well over 10 games, 11 innings, with a 2.45 ERA. Great..err...adequate job Jeff, you take the cake!

Rookie of the month

Well...its not one of my 'prize' starters...we'll give it to minor league workhorse Harry Chase. We don't expect much from Chase, but he did quite well in AA and AAA this past season; and he did pretty well in 91 at-bats in the Show this September; .264/.323/.516/..840. We'll be ecstatic if he can replicate those numbers over an entire season. But he really isnt very good, I mean he's okay...but he doesn't field particularly well...and he doesn't run...at all...so its hard to see him on the big league bench, and hes clearly not good enough for a starting position...he doesn't get on base a lot...he doesn't have much power...enjoy it while you can, Harry!
