Slugger Shavings 2063.2 - Sluggers potentially overpay for pitching quality

In the free agent war room at the Truck Plant, GM BP picked up his landline, his hand shaking. He stared at the email from David Molina's agent with the pitcher's contract demand. And he kept staring. And staring. The landline was beeping incessantly and finally just died. "He sat like that for hours without speaking, just staring," noted team AGM Cristo Beltran. "We just left him alone until we couldn't wait anymore. All the various agents had deadlines, and we were really cutting it close."

"I honestly don't know where my mind went during that time," shared GM BP. "I remember getting a chill, and then seeing images of Molina laughing it up at some resort with a broken toe spending our team's money on hookers and blow instead of pitching. I mean, this isn't the GBC, you know?"

"I was about to slap him," admitted Beltran, "but I didn't need to. Just in time he slammed down the phone and shouted at us to get the packets ready for Jon and Tommy."

Beltran was of course referring to Jon Brown and Tommy Akers. The Sluggers ended up signing big free agent contracts with them, giving both what they requested, albeit with a heavy front-load.

"We needed starting pitching, full stop. I wanted to get as much quality as possible for the money, and I hope I did that," said GM BP. When asked if it was uncomfortable bringing two pitchers that have such ties to rival Des Moines, GM BP got testy. "They are Sluggers now!"

You have been doing a great job so far this offseason. Louisville is going to be a tough opponent this year.
