Slugger Shavings 2060.2 - The pond is empty

Post by RT60 » Wed Aug 21, 2024 10:46 pm

A dark day. A very dark day. The worst day in GM BP's short career (a career that has already had a lot of bad days). The day he told the son he never had that it was time to leave. Time to jump out of the pond that has always been his home and was supposed to be his home forever. Not because GM BP wanted him to grow and mature, but because GM BP was trying to get out from under his past bad decisions.

"Two years ago you told the world that I would never be traded," cried Amphibian Johnson, tears streaming down. "You told me that you were building the team around me, and then you gave me that big contract extension!"

"Son, this was the hardest thing I have ever done," GM BP replied. "You were my first-ever draft pick. A future with you leading this team was what got me out of bed and at the park every day. I simply let you down. I have let everybody down. You think I don't want to punch a wall every time I see Scott Torres walking around? Hell, he can't even walk in a straight line right now with his concussion. Don't get me started on Ka'im Khayri. I screwed up and put the team in this position. I have to put the team first even though it kills me to let you go to do it."

"I get it. I really do. At least I am going to a team that really wants me. I feel connected there somehow. I know it is going to burn you up seeing me doing even better with my new team."

"Cold-blooded! I love it. That's my boy. Go get 'em and maybe we'll see you in the playoffs one day."

Author's note: On May 17, 2060, Amphibian Johnson was traded by the Louisville Sluggers to the Sacramento Mad Popes in exchange for SP Ethan Bricknell, SP Seiichi Suzuki, LF Ricardo Capeles, LF Justin Weatherford, and $11,500,000. A moment of silence will be observed at the Truck Plant every May 17 henceforth.

At least the pond back on the farm is restocked. Smart move. There’s this team in a fake baseball universe who had the two best players in the game, but couldn’t win. It takes a full roster and they let those players walk or die without getting anything of value in return. One of them was even a star two way player. I’d imagine the return would’ve been greater than even what you got and they would have a bright future ahead. This trade is wise and will restore hope in Loserville. All for Nashville to squash!

I can only dream of getting an offer like that for a player.
