Losing in Louisville 1.5 - Ice Ice Baby

Post by Afino » Tue May 18, 2010 6:59 pm

The good news: a 8-2 sim brought us back within 3 games of first place and 1.5 games out of the wild card.

The bad news: star SS Wings Hauser, the undisputed best hitter in the Johnson League this season (1st in OPS, 1st in VORP, 1st in Runs Created, 1st in Total Bases, 1st in life) will miss the rest of the season with a back injury. There's a possibility that he may come back in a deep playoff run, but it doesn't look good.

So obviously, we were at a crossroads. Either roll over and die or find something at the deadline to even try and fill Hauser's place. Our solution?

Hint: This isn't GUBA Afino here. MBBA Afino has balls.

Seattle's star shortstop Vanilla Ice, known in the MBBA by his real name, Rob Van Winkle.

Offense? Check.
Defense? Check.
Age and contract on his (and our) side? Fucking CHECK.

The price was steep. Several top prospects, including 1st round pick Robby Bloomquist were sent out, in addition to a 1st and 3rd round pick and starter Floyd Bannister, who had to go to make this work under the cap. No big loss for us as he's 39 and a below-average pitcher anyways.

However, we believe the good outweighs the bad. Our infield going forward is downright FRIGHTENING offensively and defensively with Hauser, Ice, and Sobah able to play 2B, 3B, and SS very well interchangibly. For now though, Ice will have to be plugged in in Hauser's spot at short and in the 3-spot in the batting order, hopefully turning around his batting line, which hasn't been good in Seattle. However, he also leads the league in steals, adding yet another facet to our offense.

I'm not worried about the bat though, because we all know what happened the last time Vanilla Ice was handed a baseball bat...
