It's never easy stepping into a legend's shoes. But new Greenville general manager Levi "Pants" Chronister is going to do his best in taking over the Moonshiners from the former GM Ron Churches.

"Replacing Ron will not be the easiest job I've ever had," Chronister said, "but I'm confident that we can keep the Moonshiners on the path toward greatness that he started them out on."

After a quick look at the roster, Chronister's first move was to put 11 players on the trade block, including longtime team favorite Long Chamberlain. The 33-year-old first baseman has spent his entire career with Greenville, all the way back to 1983, putting up 592 home runs, 1,477 RBI, 1,212 runs and a career 135 OPS+. However, he slumped to .180/.254/.390 in 1996 and is on the block because the team is looking for someone who's better at getting on base and better in the field.

"Greenville was the Johnson League's best fielding team last year," Chronister said, "and we want to keep that going and even improve it next season. I believe the three pillars of a good team are pitching, defense and getting on base, and that's what we're hoping to continue building this team around."

Chronister also put a number of middle relievers on the block, hoping to trade quality for quantity.
