The Moonshiners slipped a bit late in May, going 6-3 over their final nine games of the month, but still hold a 2-game lead in the Atlantic Division.
A lack of offense was the biggest issue, as Greenville averaged just 4 runs a game after averaging more than 6 the previous sim. Only Reddie Ray (.286/.324/.600, 3 HR, 8 RBI) and Jack See (.433/.469/.767, 3 HR, 7 RBI) posted an OPS over .800 for this span, and two regulars -- Aaron Hayes (.250/.250/.325) and Scott Cooper (.065/.065/.161) -- posted an OPS below .600, though both are expected to rebound strongly at the beginning of June.
Greenville's pitching was as strong as ever, posting a 3.24 ERA in these nine games, including two solid outings by Corey Haim, who went 1-0 with a 1.76 ERA, 11 Ks and 0 walks in 15.3 innings in two starts. Mike McGrevey, Kenneth Logan, Gregorio Gonzalez and George Fagg combined to give up no runs through 10 innings, allowing just three hits.
Moonshiners ace Jay Lee continues to not live up to expectations, going 1-1 in the sim with a 3.00 ERA in two starts, though he did strikeout 15 and walk just 2 in those 15 innings. If he can cut down on the runs and get back to last year's ERA (1.75 compared to this season's 2.90), Greenville might be able to really create some distance between itself and Baltimore.
