Drunk and Lonely Musings: 1995 #2

I've never seen a more '.500 team' than this club...we've been treading water all season, and are clearly a few pieces away from really picking things up here. There are a couple of things I really like, though...

Chamberlain is actually doing ok this season. He's got 17 bombs, giving him 577 for his career, and has a positive VORP. Quite a nice surprise, as I expected him to have a pretty dramatic negative effect on our lineup, which would have forced me to move him to the bench. I'm pretty happy with his 115 OPS+.

Fagg has done really well in the closer role, making me thing that we're just a little luck (and one more big bat) away from 85 wins. I like having a closer who can lock it down, as he has with only 3 BS in 30 opportunities. Not bad at all for a rookie who was thrust into the role at age 26.

Aaron Hayes is the fucking man. We could be looking at an MVP season from him, at some point. He's pretty much the most exciting thing that we have going in Greenville, and is the piece we are planning the future around. This season he's got an OPS+ of 139, is swiping tons of bags, will get to 200 hits, and is currently #1 in the league in AVG and OBP. Despite only 1 HR, he's 2nd in VORP and 5th in RC. He has more than double the SB of the next highest basestealer in the league. Hell, you could argue he's the MVP this season, and is almost certainly a lock for RotY. In short, he's awesome.

Anybody recall how many HR Chamberlain hit in the old MBBA? Did he even reach 600?

577 - 17 = 560

In the origianl MBBA we played 3 more seasons. IIRC he lumped soon after or during the year we are currently in and struggled to reach 600.

He did get to 600, if I recall. 630?
