Baltimore Bulletin 2011-5 Baltimores finest AAAA Guys

September Call ups

It’s always fun to look at September callus and see how these players fit into future plans. Some are prospects, some are utility guys, some are doomed to be AAAA guys, and some are just looking for a cup of coffee. Having had a firm grip on the division I was able to call up and give more playing time than usual to some of these guys.

George Smith Patton-

His prospect status has disappeared after a series of lumps earlier this season. He pitched well in 4 starts and I’m hoping he can get that last bit of control and might make a good depth starter or reliever. He may however end up being an AAAA guy.

Roy Paul-

I thought Paul would be the sixth starter this year but after bringing in Stanley Price Paul never got his chance. At 35 he just used up his last option year so will have to stick next year or might not be in Baltimore much longer. I could see him making the team as a reliever/emergency starter next year.

John Ward-

The young lefty starter got three starts and did okay with a 4.67 ERA. He has a bit of development left but projects as a 5th starter type. Will be in AAA next year.

Elvin Willard-

Had a great year at AAA Washington and was used only in relief in Baltimore. Willard is probably not good enough to start in the MBWBA but fits the makeup of the type of reliever we like to have for depth. Will be in AAA next year.

Javier Martinez-

If he was a lefty batter we would be on the big league roster. He just doesn’t have enough bat to stick around as a full time utility guy. Will be back in AAA next year.

Connor Arkless-

I really like this s guy and could see him be a legit 4th outfielder type. He’s balanced against righties/lefties and will have a high OBP which is ideal. Probably doesn’t have the power to be a real everyday corner outfielder but is a nice piece to have for depth.

Antonio Dominguez-

Dominguez in 600+ big league AB’s has basically been a replacement player. He’s on his last option year so it looks like 2012 will be a make or break year for him. He’s probably the very definition of an AAAA guy.
