Baltimore 2009-2 Playoffs?

Post by nverhoev » Wed Apr 03, 2013 11:43 am

A game by game summary of the Baltimore Monarchs 2009 playoffs. Another playoff appearance without much to show for it. This years team never really got it going. The offence took a big step back this year and will probably need an overhaul over the next few seasons.

Game 1-

Juan Rivera allows one run on three hits but unfortunately took a tough loss as Robbie Sargent twirled a complete game 6 hit shutout.

Game 2 –

James Endres puts in a solid 7 inning 1 run effort. After Enrique Reyna blows a save in the ninth Jeff Mueller is the hero with a 2 run home run in the top of 13th to give the Monarchs a big win and evens the series.

Game 3 –

The Monarchs held a 2-0 lead into the seventh inning where the magic ran out for Yin-xiang Yi. Two home runs broke open the game for Vancouver who held on for an 8-4 win and a two games to one advantage in the series.

Game 4 –

What a game this was. The Monarchs trailed 8-5 and facing a three to one series deficit managed to score 4 runs against Jason Egan in the bottom of the ninth to even the series. Daniel Labrie drove home two with a single to tie it and veteran Ralph Buttwas the hero with a walkoff single that cashed in Labrie with two outs.

Game 5 –

Juan Rivera pitched another gem but ends up on the losing end for the second time in the series. Will Govea gives up 10 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings but manages to hold the Monarchs to a single run as the Mounties take game 5 by a two to one margin.

Game 6 –

James Endres wasn’t sharp in this one as he gave up a 5 run lead after 4 innings for work. Baltimore scored 4 runs to make it close but couldn’t come all the way back. Vancouver takes the game and the series.

Know how you feel, bro. Especially in a close series, or one you almost came back in.
