Brooklyn State of Mind: Robins Introduce First Round Pick (2062.4)

With the 2062 draftees getting deep in the weeds of getting signed, the Robins were able to get their first round pick signed. After spending the last few drafts building up their pitching ranks, the brass decided that the best course of action was to focus instead on getting some offense. Santiago Rodriguez ended up being the guy, and the Robins are excited to have him. Rodriguez is a first basemen and was a Platinum Stick winner in college. He brings a great mix of both contact and power potential, and was described by the Asia Suns coaches as a very hard worker. His defensive stats suggest that he is going to be average, though that will be something to consider using the development lab on.

Robins Chief Baseball Officer Ben Heuring ended up describing how he selected Rodriguez at the annual post draft press conference. "Santiago was a guy that we were looking at. This move helps balance our farm system a bit, and I think that Santiago is going to really handle that transition to the professional game well. The plan is for him to start out in Rookie Ball under our coaches there, with the eye to get him moving on up as soon as he is ready. I really like having Santiago in our system, and he is someone that our fans are going to be excited for."
