Brooklyn State of Mind: How Do The Robins Look For The New Rules? (2060.11)

It has been no secret that the Robins have been struggling to make money, with low attendance and not being able to spend to the cap for years being key reasons why the Robins are currently in the dark ages. But all of a sudden, the BBA announced new financial rules going forward. These changes are hoped to try and increase parity and make sure that teams are on a more even footing when it comes to the cash. As Ron likes to say, the BBA is a financial league as much as a baseball league.

So, what are the new rules? They are posted below, directly from the announcement that the Commish made at the press conference.

The BBA Financials will be adjusted moving forward in the following ways:

1) Salary Cap to $115M for 2061 and to $110M for 2062.
2) Media Revenue: Lock at $70M in 2061, then Lock at $60M in 2062 and beyond

Brooklyn this year has a payroll of 86.9 million, and is projected to next year have a payroll of 87.1 million if you count salary arbitration estimates and a couple of player and team options. The 2061 payroll estimate also assumes that the Robins don't sign any of their impending free agents. So what this means is that the Robins are likely going to be fine. Cap compliance isn't an issue, and the Robins have shown a willingness to spend PPT rewards on cash in past to help better give the front office some breathing room. Plus, the Robins internally are not banking on any postseason revenue should the drought end according to team sources. Should the Robins continue to play well down the stretch, they are projected to increase by a little bit both gate revenue and merchandise revenue, which would be a key factor in allowing them to spend to the cap.

All in all, the Robins have some hope that the dark days might be over. It's about damn time.

The gap has been narrowed. Now you have to do something with the opportunity- Robins fans are ready for a winner!

That’s exactly my mindset. This offseason is going to be a huge chance.
