Brooklyn State of Mind: Jose Torres Dazzles In Third Start (2059.9)

Huntsville is a town with some serious BBA history, and the Huntsville-Twin Falls A ball matchup on a pleasant Saturday night was a high level of attention. You see, top draft pick and future Robin Jose Torres was in town, having had a good first two starts in pro ball. A lot of hopes have been put on the teenager, with the Robins looking to him to be a frontline starter in the future. Torres has been told that he is going to stick in A ball for the time being, with the Robins brass monitoring his every move. Robins Chief Baseball Officer Ben Heuring was in attendance, stating that he wanted to take a look at how Torres was fairing in person and to talk with the Twin Falls management about things. All of this pressure and expectations are tough to meet, but Torres durned a blind eye and went to work.

In only his third start as a professional, he threw a complete game shutout, Over 9 innings of work, Torres scattered 8 hits, got some timely double plays, and was able to only throw 100 pitches. He even got 6 strikeouts. After the game, Torres was in good spirits. "There is a lot of expectations, and I'm aware that the folks up in Brooklyn are monitoring me, especially Mr. Heuring. But I can't worry about that. All I have to do is to focus on my next start, perform as well as I can, and let the rest take care of itself. I am a rookie, and I'm putting the building blocks in place."
