The 2059 draft is in the books, and the Robins ended up making the obvious pick at the top of the board. Jose Torres has the makings of being a really good frontline ace if he reaches his vast potential. He already has a ton of upside before taking the mound in a professional game, and has the makeup that the Brooklyn front office was raving about. When the draft started, it took all of a few seconds for the Robins to buzz the pick into the BBA brass running the draft. So you would think that the Robins would have him skip the minors entirely and have Torres's major league debut be the BBA equivalent to Strasburg's debut? Well, the Robins aren't doing that.
While Torres is a damn good prospect, the Robins don't want to rush him too quickly. He hasn't thrown a lot in college, and the team wants to make sure that he can finish this baseball season in A ball, where he can focus on adjusting to the professional game. Even his draft comp in Wullenweber spent a couple of years in the minors. When asked about this plan, Robins Chief Baseball Officer Ben Heuring was very blunt. "Jose is a fantastic prospect, and I can speak for the entire baseball staff that we are all very excited to work with him. But at this point, we need to be careful. I look at Cookie Monster, who was given some time in the minors to develop, and he was well-prepared. Our plan is to let Jose pitch with us down at Twin Falls, and see how he does at the A ball level this year before we make any decisions."

Good decision. If he's as good as advertised let him force your hand.

This wasn’t an easy decision for me, but this is probably the right call.BaseClogger wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2024 3:48 pmGood decision. If he's as good as advertised let him force your hand.
