As September comes the Baltimore Monarchs have the opportunity to bring up a few of their talented youngsters. The Monarchs have had a dilemma all season as they have had a few older players blocking the way for some young talent all season. A lot of the older talent has been solid but in some situations GM Eberenz would rather move the young talent to the majors to gain experience. The Monarchs could release a few of the players but are unwilling to pay the players the remainder of their contracts.
The Monarchs called up 4 young stars into their lineup this sim and here is how they fared.
2B Mark Bruner
10/32, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 3 BB
Bruner looks like a great future 2B for the Monarchs who has all the tools to be a great player. Hit .313 with 6 HR and 60 RBI's in AAA this season. Only 21 years old.
IF David Cutright
2/7, 1 SB
Cutright has a great contact rating with a solid eye to go with it. Will not hit double digit HR's but should hit for a solid average with a good OBP to go along with it. Has a great 1B positional ability with the ability to play the entire IF if needed. Cutright hit .330 with 4 HR and 35 RBI in AAA this season.
3B Robert Jowers
2/3, 2 BB
Jowers did not get much of an opportunity this past sim but made the most of it with 2 hits and 2 walks in 5 plate appearances. Jowers hit .319 with 5 HR and 67 RBI in AAA this season.
SS Seve Kava
3/8, 1 RBI
Kava got a few at bats and played well hitting .375 with an RBI this past sim. Kava looks to be a good contact hitter with solid gap power and the ability to not strike out. Doesn't have good power or much plate discipline but will have a chance to hit .300 and is an awesome defender who can play the entire infield well. Hit .304 with 7 HR and 42 RBI in AAA.
These four infielders look to be the infield of the future for the Monarchs. All will not be starters but should all be impact players for the Monarchs in the coming years. And with other young outfielders like Daniel Labrie and Nick Renner the Monarchs have a lot of good talent all under 26 years old. Most under 22 years old. If the Monarchs can find a couple extra pitchers to help one of the worst pitching staffs in the MBBA they will be a contender in 1996.
