Robins post season wrap - Out before you're in

Post by Fat Nige » Sat Jan 30, 2016 6:32 am

After the euphoria of August and September it was a short sharp shock for Robins in the post season. Following their 34-22 showing in the final two months of the 2024 season they had high hopes for the Doubleday Series against the California Crusaders.

Jose Aicon picked up the win as the series opened with a 4-2 win for Robins in Brooklyn but then the series went shutout crazy. Slumping Fernando Moran led the Robins to an astonishing 0-7 loss while September call-up Kenny Hill presided over an even more shocking 11-0 romp in the first game in California. The Crusaders bounced right back though and recorded the series' third shutout as Robins went down 0-3 behind Salvador Barron.

That broke the camel's back and the home side won Game Five 5-1 before the series returned to the East Coast. Joey Budding who had gone 10-1 over his last 20 starts of the regular season couldn't hold Game Six in Brooklyn and the Robins lost the game 4-3 and the series 4-2. It might have been a shock exit for Robins but the rest of the MBBA world was about to be rocked too as the Crusaders dispatched the favoured Barnstormers 4-2 in the Cartwright Cup before downing Atlantic City 4-3 in the Landis Memorial Series to win the big One.

It had been a tough six games for Brooklyn but more than anything else the batters embarrassed themselves with three notable exceptions. Bob Brandon, Brian Whitten and Orlando Medrano all hit above .300 with Whitten leading the team with two homers & six RBI. The rest of the team all packed up and went on their holidays early, all hitting below .200 and Albert Shoemaker & Miguel Carrasco hit below.100.
