Brooklyn returned to over .500 with a strong finish to May. Winning seven out of the last ten games they finished 14-14 for the month and 28-27 overall. Nowhere as good as they had hoped but still good enough for second in the poor JLA behind the 32-25 Halifax Hawks. In the last ten games of the month the Robins went 2-2 in one-run games and collected their fifth shutout of the season when they blanked Greenville 8-0. Their longest road swing of the season so far had produced the best results so far as Brooklyn posted a 10-2 record in series at Vancouver, Yellow Springs, Madison and Greenville.
Mario Mendez was by far the star of the last ten games of May on the mound as he won both his starts pitching 17 innings, giving up just one run, striking out 12 and walking one batter only. He posted his second complete game shutout of the season as he blanked Greenville 8-0 on six hits. Jose Castro, while still not being the commanding closer that the Robins need, has converted all but two of his save opportunities and has a record now of 1-3 with 12 saves. His ERA of very nearly seven though is still causing concern. Joey Budding added his third win of the season but also his fifth defeat while Jose Garcia went 1-1 as well after his promotion to the rotation.
Two bats coming back to life belong to Benjamin O'Rorke and Rob Childers, both of whom hit four homers in the final ten games of May. Leadoff hitter Orlando Medrano posted a .479 OBP and scored eight times which was only matched by Childers. Jose Escarceja added two homers to lead the team in 2024 with 13 homers with both Albert Shoemaker and Childers having hit 10. Medrano has scored a team leading 38 times in 2024 with Shoemaker walking 23 times, four more than Medrano, but Albert has also grounded into a by far team worst mark of nine double plays. Medrano leads the team with 16 stolen bases while Davis Locke & Brian Whitten have 11 steals with Bob Brandon one behind on 10.
