His previous five MBBA seasons have never yielded a losing season and while he has won exactly 11 games the last four seasons his losses have been declining to the extent that he only lost five games last year. This year he has been lights out though in the first month, four starts have yielded four wins. Always one to cough up the long ball he has only had had one season where he hasn't surrendered at least 20 (and that indeed was 18 homers) but this year so far he has kept them all in the park. In fact in his last two starts he has shut out Carolina & Montreal, results which have contributed to his 0.77 WHIP and just two earned runs given up in 2024. He has not only been very stingy with his runs surrendered this year but he has even cut down on the hits he has allowed, all previous years he has given up over a hit an innings on average but in April he allowed just 20 hits in the 32 innings he has pitched. His two complete games so far has equalled his career high that he set last year and before this year he had only ever managed one MBBA shutout. Always a solid rather than overpowering strikeout pitcher his 11 K's against Montreal in his last outing was the first time he has struckout 10 or more in a game since his rookie MBBA season in 2019.
A third round draft pick of the Robins when they were in Baltimore in 2016 the scout report on him has always been “Could do a job at the bottom of the rotation, if you want any more you'll need an upgrade”. Well if he continues in this vein all season I think Brooklyn have just got their upgrade. More good news for Brooklyn fans is that days before he picked up the award he signed a three-year extension to his contract worth $20.6m
