Prince to the Tigers

Post by nerfHerder » Wed Jan 25, 2012 1:05 pm

WOW! I think he is being way overpaid. If it were a 5 year deal I might think differently, but he'll be 36 when it expires. I just don't see his knees and ankles holding out that long.

That's a pricey overreaction to Victor Martinez being out for the year.

That being said, you are going to love him on your team.

I do love him on my team. Will I love it in five seasons?

After 3 or 4 playoff appearances and at the VERY LEAST one WS championship, Yeah I will still love it.

Will I love it in eight seasons? Yeah, because I can't wait for Prince to go into the hall as a Tiger.

For a Tigers fan, We have been trying to atone for 2006, 2009, and 2011, and trying to get through an incredibly boring offseason. Then Victor goes down. Overreaction? Sure. But the fact is, Mr. Illitch is 82 years old and he wants to win. Sure is nice to have an owner who doesn't cry about the money.

P.S. In 2011 the Tigers paid Carlos Guillen and Magglio Ordonez 23 million dollars. I'd say 2012 will see that amount of cash put to much better use.

I think hes one of these types that cashes in and then shuts down. He'll put up numbers still but I'm not sure the motivation will be as strong anymore.

Fielder/Cabrera is probably the best middle of the order in the game now. Thats going to be tough.

No doubt he is a great guy who is a clubhouse leader. He will bust his tail for that team. I just wonder how he will hold up. He'll be worth is for the next 5 years or so, we'll see after that.

Blake, you couldn't be further from the truth. Maybe its hard for people to see a heavy guy as an effort guy, but that'd just what Prince is. In the lineup, every day, absolutely hates the concept of rest. In addition, a true team player and leader in a fun way.

Yeah maybe hes one of these guys thats a competitor but also a money guy too. Some guys are both I guess. Some just cash in and then the desire goes away and they just collect money. I see Matt Kemp as one of those types. Gets the money and then thats it.

You hit the nail on the head. That is my fear moving forward. How are the Brewers not only going to replace his offense, but, how will they fill the leadership void left behind.

I'm afraid the leadership void will get filled by a "knucklehead" like Nyjer Morgan or even worse, Mat Gamel.

More likely you'll see Rickie emerge as a more vocal leader.

I wouldnt have minded if he signed with the Rangers. They have a ton of money for once, since they signed a deal with Fox Sports Southwest.

Check out Corey Hart's comments today that seem to indicate, as I expected, Rickie Weeks is the true leader of the Brewers:

http://www.620wtmj.com/blogs/trennikusn ... 85623.html
On Ricke Weeks being the true leader in the clubhouse

"Rickie was, I think more so than Prince was, that figure in the clubhouse that had that respect."

"He's not really the vocal guy, he's more like... It's almost like when a dad looks at you, you know to stop... Rickie has that, he's got that ability to look at a younger guy ...to say very few words and make his point. He's such a strong hearted and genuine guy he's got that ability to just look at somebody and OK, I need to quit. I think he'll be important this year for us on a leadership standpoint...He likes being that guy that has the load on his shoulders."

I should be, but I'm addicted to this forum now that I have tapatalk. We've won one out of two tonight so far. Rubber match coming up. I got it, live dartball play by play. What do you think?

Lost game three. I had a chance to tie it in the 9th. I'm a dumper.

Not as bad as me who got to sit game 3 after going 0-7. I've bottomed out! All triples next week!
