Ashamed
I love my country, always have done. We can moan about Brexit, NHS the weather etc but to me England, Great Britain is one of the few places I'd love to live and a place I feel safe. Today though I felt ashamed, today I went to the shop for a couple things. Well I always go early 5am type of thing, however with this virus they didn't open till 6am(it's usually 24hrs).
So I get there at 6am, usually 1/2 dozen people are there at that time. Today it was 100s, I go inside and hand on heart people were running with trolleys, grabbing stuff of the shelves, the shop had put a limit on various things, my addiction Dr Pepper I could only buy 3 bottles fair enough. However people knowing full well certain items were rationed so to speak were turning up at the till with 6 bottles and having an arguement with the cashier, when I drove away cars were bumper to bumper trying to get on the car park, at just after 6am it was like a Saturday afternoon.
The one thing I kept thinking of whilst driving home apart from the shame was, if these people had been alive in the 1940s we'd all be talking German and probably billions would have died in concentration camps and Hitler's birthday would be a public holiday.

Re: Ashamed
It's been similar here in the States. It is truly amazing how panic and fear breeds just like the ugly virus we currently face. Rest assured not everyone is a selfish douchebag, they are all just afraid and not sure what will happen. As the great Master Yoda once said, "Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering".

Re: Ashamed
I think fear brings the worst out in people - certainly have seen it here in Indiana. The contradictory messages we've been getting from the government haven't helped either. First it was no big deal and probably a hoax, so people didn't prepare much. Then, all of a sudden, it was a dire emergency and everyone hit the stores at once. Madness.
That said, I'm preparing for a Star Wars (even the godawful prequels) and then Lord of the Rings (even the godawful Hobbit movies) marathon over the weekend ...

Re: Ashamed
I was caught hoarding yesterday according to Morrison’s supermarket, I was stopped at the till as I was attempting to buy three twin-pots of 125g rice which apparently counts as buying six. So as I’m 60, fairly immobile and without transport to get to shops often, it means that as I don’t eat vegetables I will have to have several meals this week without a side dish. Thanks to the genuine hoarders

Re: Ashamed
My job is still on. In fact we can work up to 60 hours a week with an additional $2 per hour on top of overtime. or we don't have to show up and it won't be held against us. Plus we will probably get a check or two from the government at some point. To make up for wages I didn't even lose.
I bought a new car today with no money down. Literally nothing. I went there and took a car home with a full tank of gas and didn't pay one cent. In fact, I probably won't "have" to make a payment till June or July because of all the forgiveness policies going around. Interest rate almost as low as my house mortgage.
I'm considering flying to see either my family or the in laws this weekend just because tickets are $30 round trip, my GF has weekend off and I can take off work... no harm, no foul.
I have also suffered from extreme bouts of social anxiety my whole life. Social distancing has been a huge breath of fresh air for me in so many ways. To be honest and selfish. I know this virus is effecting a lot of people. And I do feel for them. But my life quality has been so much better the past few weeks.

It has been easy for me being retired. But I worry about my brothers and sisters that I left behind that are taking a risk everyday with this going on.

Re: Ashamed
Shut down school teacher here with 3 kids. Wife is a nurse. So she stocked us up on can foods, snacks, and microwave meals for about 8-10 days. I’ve made my oldest son skip voluntary baseball workouts (the guy doing them is in his 60’s who thinks building a baseball program comes before health concerns) in honor of social distancing.
I’ve walked 18 holes the last two days while seeing no one or touching anything but my own stuff while working out in a private gym we have at my school.
The rest of my day consists of sitting on my ass, commenting here, playing video games, and watching old sports on YouTube. I’m on game 3 of the 1990 World Series. I think the Reds are going to pull this off against the mighty A’s!!!

Re: Ashamed
Trust me I don't like the deaths, virus etc but with not going out to people as much I've spent bit more time talking to the daughters, spending time with the wife. However unlike me I don't think she counts it as quality time when I mention OOTP, In fact my wife doesn't really swear but when I said I was making spanakopita she said "that would be nice for tea" however when I mentioned it was for an article and PP there was *%#&+! one of those and a few #@*% thrown in.

Dude. There's no way. The Reds have no shot against the Bash Brothers and Rickey Henderson.7teen wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 3:38 pmShut down school teacher here with 3 kids. Wife is a nurse.
