I don't need guys over 30 on big contracts right now is why. Going for a shotgun approach of adding a lot of prospects in hopes of competing in a few years.

MacKeamish could be a stud.

Rebhan was ok, but signed really, really long term and priced over his value. I kicked the tires on him earlier in the season and ultimately didn't like his extension with my salary structure. Do like him, though.

Rebhan probably has some years left (at least toward the end of that contract) and he does have very low greed--although that probably doesn't figure into the picture anymore, since he is signed through the age of 36. Still, some pitchers don't fall apart once they hit 35.

I woudn't play MacKeamish anywhere but first base.

I'm just jabbering here. The trade definitely saves Louisville a lot of ca$h.

Well now I have nearly nothing in terms of contracts signed for next year and especially long term. The real question is going to be how to deal with free agency with the money burning a hole in my pocket. I'll be tempted to splurge but this free agent market might not be that strong and I don't know if adding more guys like Rebhan will really help my team. Also, I won't want a Type A guy since I'll lose a pick.

It's no wonder my A's lose based on those criteria alone; it's a tough reality for a rebuilding team. I'm glad I don't have to deal with a douche owner, crumbling stadium, city that attracts not even locals, unenthusiastic fanbase and all the other things Beane does.

But Rome wasn't built in a day and I went in giving this roster a shot, even adding a couple free agent pitchers and hitters. It didn't work so I'm going all in on the rebuild. Buys me a few years of excuses for losing at least right?

I think a great to rebuild is to wait 6-10? years until most the guys created in 1995 are done, or over the hill. I think the number of superstars created in the first year of a sim (if that is what indeed happened) and a for a couple years after that, are a lot more talented than guys created about ten years into a simmed league. At least that is a popular theory as found on the OOTP forum.


And yeah, if you've pared down your salary commitments top next ta nothnig and play some non stars for five years, I would imagine you could build up your farm system. It's a long road, but I see no alternative--for any team in rebuild mode.



Sorry, I don't pay much attention to the MLB A's -- only maybe in 72-74 (?) when they went to 3 straight WS I was a kid watching baseball and that team being there 3 straight years made an impression on me. Rudi, Bando, Vida Blue, Catfish Hunter.

There hasn't been much to pay attention to lately with the A's. Difficult to watch.

It does seem that there are some monster talents that either came into the league around 95 or were imported in that era.

I've never found much luck in FA in terms of studs. Everyone overpays and players are overpriced. Now I can find role-players or pieces to the puzzle there, like I did with Jackson and Brooks (since I had to plug some IF holes defensively). Trades and the draft is where you find success.

Lee, Botham, Pennebaker, Avila, Costello all acquired via trade. Guillen was a waiver-wire pickup. Others have come up through the draft.

Use your money and once you have a young corps of players go out and trade for some leaders. Look for bargains in the FA bin, don't overpay.

With Rebhan I don't like his GB% and he reminds me of Kiplinger (Des Moines) with some solid splits in ratings who I dealt away to get Lee, but he's better as a #4 behind Lee, Izatt, and Dickson than anything else i got and at 5M he's not the most expensive in the world compared to what was available via FA.

A gamble for sure but MacKeamish doesn't fit my team defensively really and bennett has some potential but has a ways to go. His pitches need development and he has some intelligence and work ethic issues.
