As we wrap up the 2055 season, one of the few bright spots for the Nine was Thum remaining strong at the plate. He's now up to 3214 career regular season hits, good for 19th all time.
But how much further he can go, as he moves into his age 38 season? He's a generational talent and a sure-fire Hall of Famer (and signed though his age 41 season). The question is--how much longer can he keep up a close to full season hitting in the .275 to .300 range?
In other words - can he get another 786 hits to go to 4000? 687 to top the Bopper? Or a bit less?
What say you?
Can Thum hit the Big 4000 as he approaches the Big 40?

Based on how quickly SC3 fell off, I'm not too optimistic.

That is definitely a possibility. I've obviously banked on him not sucking completely based on the extension.jiminyhopkins wrote: ↑Tue Aug 01, 2023 10:35 amBased on how quickly SC3 fell off, I'm not too optimistic.

Now that there's been some time I voted as well. My heart would love to see him get to 3901 but that would require playing at his current level right to age 41 and be able to play a backup role for 2 years after that. As much as I'd love it I don't see it
I do think getting to 3700 is very doable (average 125 hits over 4 years.
Barring a major injury, I think 3500 is a lock.

Definitely hope Thum does it for you. I was more lamenting my own situation with an ageing, popular HOFer. SC3 WAR the last 3 yrs: 7.4, 3.6, 0.7. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Now I gotta decline the TO and face the wrath of Fan Interest.Trebro wrote: ↑Tue Aug 01, 2023 11:27 amThat is definitely a possibility. Oh yeah that's a really rough situation that I'm hoping I can avoid. But I couldn't let Thum end his career elsewhere. Imagine if he'd signed with Nashville! *shudder*jiminyhopkins wrote: ↑Tue Aug 01, 2023 11:52 amDefinitely hope Thum does it for you. I think his most likely peak is in the high 3500s or low 3600s.
