Ballpark Food Challenge - Round 2 (#1 of 2)
Congrats to all those who advanced! Remember, you can find all entries at the main post here.
And now, Round 2 match-ups:
BURGER/HOT DOG/SANDWICH REGION
(1) Madison's "The Good Morning Burger" vs (17) Chicago's "Portillo's Italian Beef Sandwich"
While Madison handedly won in Round 1, Chicago pulled off a mini-upset in taking down Charlotte's briskey and citrus slaw dog. But now the two must face-off to advance. Is it the breakfast-lunch-and-dinner meal famously created by The Simpson's or can the Black Sox's Italian meatwich of flavor knock off the top-seed?
(8) Charm City's "Crab Mac n Cheese Dog" vs (9) Calgary's "Hanski's Maple BBQ Brisket Sandwich"
After two resounding victories, the road to the finals ends here for one of these entries. The Charm City loyalists will be making their case, but Calgary's brisket sandwich is making a lot of noise and could make a deep run if they can get past the awesome Crab Mac n Cheese Dog.
(4) Nashville's "Bluebird' Best Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich" vs (13) Omaha's "The Runza"
Both clubs ran away with decisive wins in the opening round but it won't be easy this time around. Nashville's feeling slighted with just a 4-seed and wants to send a message to the rest of the field, while Omaha's strong backing across the league and vocal support from their General Manager makes this one of the more entertaining match-ups.
(5) Twin Cities' "The Juicy Lucy Burger" vs (21) Yellow Springs' "The Big Niner"
Louisville was no match for the Juicy Lucy and Yellow Springs will have to bring their A-game to get past the mother of all cheeseburgers. But coming off the upset, The Big Niner is not afraid to throw around its girth. Taking down Twin Cities will be a tough act to swallow, I mean follow.

I think this is where we exit. I don't really consider anything brisket as underdog against most of the items in the tournament.

Classic. The only way anyone can knock down the Heartland is to match us head-to-head.

More pertinent to the conversation, I mean, face it ... even Lucy gets juicier when she lands a herself a Big Niner.

If you've ever had Portillo's (for real), you know why! Top it off with a chocolate cake shake, and die happy ...

I prefer the regular chocolate shake myself, and toss in some french fries as well.

One of the best days of my life was when Portillo's opened its first Indianapolis area restaurant … 5 minutes from our house. Now Giordano's has a restaurant near us, and Lou Malnotti's has announced plans to open a location nearby, too. I just hope that pandemic doesn't sink those plans ...

Perhaps the most precisely perfect post in all of BBA history right there.
