Sacramento (SAC) sends
LF Billy Bonnar (A) - MiL contract
Note: Coupon to Denny's
Phoenix (PHX) sends
SS Gustavo Santos (INT)
Note: Coupon for a $1 off a Toledo Liberty game (good only on Tuesdays)
In a classic deadline deal, the Toledo Liberty went all out again this year, using their dominating presence in the Tall0n's organization to trade Phoenix IC prospect Gustavo Santos to the Sacramento Mad Popes for outfielder Billy Bonnar. At the time, the deal flew under the radar screen, mostly because it was not the first such deal pulled by the Liberty, who as an A-Ball franchise seems to have inordinate pull inside the Phoenix organization due simply to the fact that they win championships.
Santos is a very young semi-prospect who switch-hits and runs a little but at 18 doesn't exactly thrill anywhere else. That said, with a little loving care and a covert session (or two) with the Green-eyed Woman, seems like he might, maybe have a chance to be the team manager someday soon. In other words, the kind of guy Sacramento will turn into an All-Star in whatever way they do.
Bonnar is a 7th-round pick in the 2055 selection process, and though he has put up some interesting numbers in the minors, doesn't project to a big BBA presence. It should also be noted that Bonnar was not long for the Mad Poe organization anyway because his bat has been known to occasionally produce home runs, an act that is generally frowned upon by all M'ope affiliates under penalty of running wind sprints until the guy is unable to scream "Camacho" with any breath-power.
The deal was considered a last-ditch addition for the Liberty's ill-fated 2061 championship bid. He played in seven games before the postseason, blasting his way to a .438/.500/.875 slash that came with a double, two homers and six RBI. The hot hand continued into the playoffs where he went 2-for-3 in three games. Alas, as noted, the deal was for naught, however as the Liberty went down in the first round.
This led some to consider the deal to be a slam dunk for Sacramento.
It's hard to argue against that, though Bonnar still has two seasons left to club baseballs for Toledo, so there's still time to make up the difference. But the clubs also traded additional resources in the deal, with Sacramento sending the Phoenix front office a coupon good for a free entree at Denny's, and he Tall0ns sending a $1 off coupon to a Liberty game, a coupon which is considered good on Tuesdays. While a trip to Todd Creek Grounds is always exciting, it's hard to beat a good Moons Over My Hammy Slam.
All things equal, this tips the scales to where you probably have to consider it a big win for Toledo, and another example of why you should never deal with a behemoth.

Re: 2061 - Trade Analysis SAC/PHX
The Green-eyed Woman was able to make a slight tweak to Santos' ... essence on the day of the trade, resulting in a bump to his BABIP. This is hands down a win from our side.
