Post by CTBrewCrew » Wed Apr 02, 2025 5:38 pm

Twin Cities (TWC) and Yellow Springs (YS9) Trade Analysis

Image Image

Trade Summary
- Twin Cities (TWC) Receives:
- 1B Pepe Gonzales(AA, Pot 50)

- Yellow Springs (YS9) Receives:
- CF Manuel Nevada (S A, Pot 45)
- 1B Stephen Skandalis (INT, Pot 50)

Player Evaluations

Pepe Gonzáles (AA, Pot 50) – 1B

- Strengths:
- Strong all-around bat (.315/.383/.566 in AA last season).
- 30 HRs, good plate discipline (54 BB to 87 K).
- Solid defensive ability at 3B (Range 6, Arm 7, Errors 6).
- Above-average power (7), eye (5), and contact (5).
- Weaknesses:
- Low speed and poor baserunning (Speed 3).
- Not particularly versatile defensively, though he can fake SS (3).

Manuel Nevada (S A, Pot 45) – CF

- Strengths:
- Elite defensive potential in the outfield (Range 8, Arm 8, Error 7).
- Good speed (Speed 5, Stealing 5, Baserunning 6).
- Decent gap power (7) and ability to avoid Ks (5).
- Weaknesses:
- Below-average bat (.258/.311/.373 in S A).
- Limited power (4) and eye (4).
- Likely a defensive specialist without much offensive upside.

Stephen Skandalis (INT, Pot 50) – 1B

- Strengths:
- Potentially good future bat (Contact 6, Power 7 potential).
- Weaknesses:
- Currently very raw, with abysmal current ratings.
- No real defensive value (1B only, poor ratings).
- No minor league track record yet.

Trade Verdict: Who Wins?

Twin Cities Wins This Trade.

- Pepe Gonzáles is by far the best player in this trade, showing proven offensive success in AA with plus power and solid contact skills. His defensive ability at 3B makes him a future regular or strong bench bat in the big leagues. He is already the team's top 1B prospect with a 22nd organization ranking and a 2nd overall ranking in the minors.

- Yellow Springs’ return is underwhelming. Nevada is a defensive-minded outfielder who might never hit well enough to be an MLB regular. Skandalis is an extreme long-term project, and while his potential is intriguing, he’s so raw that he might never pan out.

Grade for Twin Cities: B – They get a legitimate future MLB bat for two pieces with lower floors and uncertain upside.

Grade for Yellow Springs: C – Unless they strongly believe in Skandalis’ bat, they likely gave up too much here. If Skandalis develops, it could work out, but right now, they’re betting on upside rather than immediate impact. He now becomes the YS9 top 3B prospect.

But hey what do I know... Im on my way to a 100 loss season :)

Gonzalez is having a monster year and given that I felt comfortable trading him for some folks who could bump into something useful. If that doesn't happen, Alan wins easily.

Gonzales put up those numbers as a fully developed 25 year old in AA. So, while I do think he can be a solid BBA player, it's not a slam dunk. He is rated 45 potential as a 3B. I'm just cross training him to be more useful. And he is my 4th best prospect cause my farm system sucks.

Nevada is going to be good IMO. He isn't really behind in development cause he has bumped several times (+2 contact, +1 power, +1 Eye). He is somewhat similar to Clancy Lee of Montreal. Batting profile is comparable, just no speed and a little worse defense.

Skankasaurus has been bumping also. He is +1 contact +1 Pow, +1 Eye. I admit he is a raw 1B who may or may not work out. But I think the key is that both players are actively getting better.

Oh well, I tried not to screw Rob cause he has had some terrible luck and I genuinely want to see him win one of these trades. I gave him players that I would want to trade for. Will it work out? We will have to check back in a few years

Yeah there's no way in knowing until probably 2065. And one of the things I appreciate with you as a trading partner, Alan, is you always play fair.

Hard to call any deal when it comes to swapping prospects, but I kind of like Rob's side of this one.
