I’ve been having some fun at work this week playing with Ron’s development data in Excel. So far my favorite slice was identifying the individual players with the most (net) ratings changes from November 2060 to October 2061. Below I’ll list the Bumpiest Player Award (players with the most net positive potential ratings improvements) leaderboard and the Lumpiest Player Award (players with the most net negative potential decreases) leaderboard.
The ratings change events considered important enough for consideration below include BABIP, Avoid K’s, Gap, Power, Eye, Stuff, HRA, Movement (not ideal since it's a composite but we can’t trust pitcher BABIP and I wanted to have a similar amount of categories for batters and pitchers), and Control. The lists should skew towards position players since they have an extra category but as you’ll see below pitchers get plenty of attention.
Bumpiest Player Award
Position | Player | Organization | Net Potential Changes |
---|---|---|---|
P | Ernesto Juarez | PHX | 10 |
3B | Mohammed bin Mus'ad | RMO | 10 |
CF | Ameer bin Basil | LOU | 9 |
P | Bob Rolf | NO | 9 |
2B | Luis Zavala | MEX | 9 |
LF | Onan Ogun | CHA | 9 |
We have a tie for 2061’s Bumpiest Player award. Phoenix reliever Ernesto Juarez and Rocky Mountain 3B Mohammed bin Mus’ad each saw their potential ratings increase by a net of 10 points. Jaurez, an unsigned GBC draft pick who was given a major league contract last year increased his potential control and HRA by three while increasing his potential stuff and movement by two. 28 year old bin Mus’ad also has a GBC connection, having signed a $63M contract last offseason after spending years in that league. His potential eye and power both increased by three while his potential BABIP and avoid K’s increased by two.
The next three players listed are still young, raw prospects who were signed or drafted recently. Ogun stands out because he’s 26 years old.
Lumpiest Player Award
Position | Player | Organization | Net Potential Changes |
---|---|---|---|
P | Keiran Oeltjen | NSH | (10) |
P | Conrado Guzzetti | BIK | (8) |
RF | Gilberto Saenz | CHI | (8) |
RF | Khoi Zhu | VAL | (8) |
P | Tamam Abdul-Basit | VAL | (8) |
SS | Ahmad Virk | LOU | (7) |
CF | Gary Baxter | SA | (7) |
2B | Thaqib Mufeed | SA | (7) |
How sweet it is to see a Bluebird win the 2061 Lumpiest Player award! Oeltjen signed as an IFA for a $3.2M signing bonus in January. The 1 stamina reliever lost three points of potential control and HRA while losing two points of potential stuff and movement.
The only player on the list who wasn’t a recent IFA signing is the former first overall draft pick, Ahmad Virk.
Unfortunately for Valencia and San Antonio they’re each represented twice among the eight players who most lumped.
In case your team didn't have a player listed above, here's the top bumpers and lumpers for each organization:
