High-A+Rookie/Omaha Organizational Report

Post by aaronweiner » Fri May 27, 2011 2:21 pm

High-A Council Bluffs Express

Maxwell's amidst mired mush, so we're combining the High-A and the Rookie reports.

Only real prospect

Maxwell Johnson

Who's a doozy. Johnson needs to get his work ethic in order and, well, no other critiques. Plus numbers in everything except control, Johnson has a realistic chance of being a future #1 starter. He's at the right level for his skills now, and since he's just 19 years old, he's still got a long way to go. If he makes it...well, if he makes it he'll be fantastic.

Deep sleepers:

Haywood Rose

Rose is really raw, and even at his height he might not make the majors. However, he's got great intangibles and projects to be potentially okay enough to fill a sixth spot in a major league pen. He's also old for High-A and didn't produce, but since he was just drafted we'll cut him some slack.

Juan Santollo

We're getting really deep now...Santolo is what I like to call an "infrastructure" player, which is the kind of player that if he figures out some new skills might become something, some day.

Milo McPherson

Had really good numbers at Council Bluffs, but he was slightly old for the level. Doesn't throw hard, and there's a realistic chance that he'll never turn into anything.

Rookie League Bismarck Pioneers

Only one prospect worth noting here, largely because most players were promoted quickly (some too quickly).

Carlos Vega

But he's a potential doozy. Vega is extremely raw for a 20 year old, and so we're an awfully long way from a full endorsement of the guy. However, should he attain all of his potential, or, possibly, grows his potential, we could be looking at a future All-Star who can play multiple infield positions. We're a long, long way away from that point, though.
