AA Rancho Cordova/MQT Organizational Report

Post by aaronweiner » Thu May 19, 2011 7:09 am

AA Rancho Cordova Lancers

The AA team has been largely gutted of prospects; the team's record was largely due to veteran contributions. They're not empty, though.

Top prospect:

Jesus Torrealba

Neither Torrealba nor Blaisdell is a future star, but they could both possibly be solid pitchers. Torrealba is almost ready right now to be a one-out lefty guy in the major leagues, albeit a weak one. With some more seasoning, he should be a reliable major league pitcher for several years, though his future role will almost certainly be as a primary lefthanded bullpen pitcher.

Other notables:

Scott Jackson

Jackson is solid at both outfield positions and has a reasonable chance to be a .270 hitter in the majors with decent speed and decent defense at both corner outfield positions - a solid fourth outfielder, in other words. Unlike most of the prospects in the upper levels of the Marquette system, he's also a lefty. He should go to AAA next year.

Roy Warner

Warner is 23 years old, so he's on level at AA. His batting eye is in question, but he has good intangibles, has improved in the past, is solid defensively and might be a productive professional backup. He's also developing a bit of a platoon factor against lefthanders; hopefully that won't hold him back too much.

Sleepers:

Tim Young

Young is sort of an interesting player; he's bad defensively and has very little power and a poor batting eye. In other words, he's a sabermetrics nightmare. But lifetime, he's hit .352 at A ball, .302 at AA and he needs more than his 23 at bat sample at AAA. More intriguing than good, but he's only 23.

Bison Tennial

Just because. You'd also think a guy with a 19 avoid K rating would have a higher sac bunt rating, too. Looks like a minor league lifer.
