I think Dares messed up as well. Had a guaranteed $9.5 for the next two years and swapped it out for $7.8 and $8.8.

Had two team option years at $9.5 with Portland after that and traded that out for $9.8 (guaranteed if he opts in after year 2) and a TO of $10.8.

So he swapped $19 guaranteed and $19 option for $16.6 guaranteed and up to $26.4 guaranteed and $10.8 option. So less money overall but I guess one more year of personal control in the decision.

That extra guaranteed money ain’t nothin at his age and durability.

I thought his bidding might go a little higher but he hit the market in the wrong offseason. He was the only viable middle infielder.

Ploid, OTOH, had all kinds of competition in the 1B market so his outcome was more predictable.

I guess I tricked him into thinking he would compete with the thinner 3B FA pool
