Moving teams and afilliates

Post by Chuck V » Sun Oct 13, 2024 9:59 pm

Having recently moved the Edmonton Jackrabbits to Austin to become the Shredders. Same Disappointing Flavor! New Name!.

I noticed that the San Antonio Outlaws had an affiliate in Austin and still does!

I think that if a higher level team moves into an city occupied by a lower level team, that the lower level team is required to surrender the city, but the team that is moving into the city has to pay the lower level teams relocation costs.

Example One. Edmonton moves to Austin. They have to pay the major league relocation PPT fee AND pay San Antonio 10 PPT for relocation costs.

Example Two. Calgary wants to move their AAA team to Winnipeg. Austin has their AA team there, but since the AAA team is a higher level, the AAA team gets the market, but has to pay the 10 PPT cost AND pay Austin 10 PPT.

The team that is currently there owns the rights to the logo and team name. So in my example, the Calgary AAA team could not be named the Winnipeg Black Drums.

Interesting idea, but does it have an effect on either team at all? Is it just cosmetic?

Not a bad idea, though a little cumbersome to catch.

Back in the day we had Havana and Havana. I think we may have a couple of competing minor league teams, too.

Pretty much cosmetic and just to keep things in order. Aka, baseball OCD.
