Off-Season Suggestions
There are a couple of things I would like to see us do this off-season.
1. Minor League Relocation. I know there has been some suggestions over letting owners relocate (especially new owners) to allow an owner to have some ties with their team. While I have no desire to tamper with Madison nor the history of the franchise, I would really love to be able to adjust my minor league teams. As someone who follows the Reds all the way down through their minor league teams, I have watched them shift several times over the past 5 seasons. Starting in 2012, their Double-A team will be in its 3rd city (Chattanooga, Carolina, and now Pensacola). I'd like to see us add this as a potential PP reward. Honestly, to create some interest, I'd like to see perhaps a 1 year free move this off-season and then make it a PP reward to keep owners from constantly shifting. But, perhaps give any owner who completes 1 full season in the league a chance to relocate minor league teams for free. Then, make them pay to relocate.
2. Bring back the Create an Ammy feature. I know this probably creates some extra work on the simmer, but hopefully not much. We did this the first few seasons where owners could receive PPs by creating a fictional bio on players. If I'm not mistaken, all the simmer/commish had to do was rename some of the ammys when they were generated. We need to have some limitations where we aren't creating Vanilla Ice and Mark Paul Goselaars again (No singers/actors), but allow owners to create some players we can have ties to and follow. I still loving seeing names like Ad Collins pop up from time to time (though he plays for Omaha).

Re: Off-Season Suggestions
So thats where Neil Patrick Harris and Butch Huskey came from. Personally I don't like seeing famous names in there but if it were a friend or relative I wouldn't have a problem with that. Just as long as theyre not famous personalities.
I dont like the idea of relocating the major league teams but it's probably not going to be a big deal for the minor league teams. It might even add some realism and storylines to the league. Because like you said they do move all the time in real life.

Re: Off-Season Suggestions
I really do NOT like seeing players have names of real life players or personalities; that is why this is a fictional league.
So, for instance, I do not like seeing the names: Junior Felix, Bobby Bonds, Jr, and Saddara Oh, Jr -- just to mention three. Plus weird names that are in the league but I cant think of them right now.
I would be for Minor League Franchise relocation, within some sort of guidelines and PPT spending, as this goes along with my suggestions of things that give GMs a sense of personal empowerment and investment and enjoyment of their teams and franchises.

Re: Off-Season Suggestions
I agree. I don't like seeing those names either. All of those names were created a while back. I like creating names of guys who I have had in other leagues (ad collins) for example. Or add names of baseball players in movies (Steve Nebraska) or just making up random fake names or of people we know personally.Al-Hoot wrote:I really do NOT like seeing players have names of real life players or personalities; that is why this is a fictional league.

Re: Off-Season Suggestions
I wholeheartedly second both ideas. I asked a couple seasons ago about relocating/renaming the minor league teams but nothing came of it.
On the subject of names, I say the weirder the better. Nick Spitulski and I have a league with some of the craziest names you can imagine. I personally get a kick out of guys like Rob Van Winkle. I might even sign him this winter. I mean, when your pitcher has a 7 ERA, at least you can chuckle at the fact that he is named Dr. Kenneth Noisewater and is therefore awesome anyway.

Re: Off-Season Suggestions
The addition of "real" people to the league has long been a source of debate. Some love it. Some hate it. Once upon a time, Recte created all the players that were suggested with few exceptions. Some were real people, such as Neil Patrick Harris, who came with a fun backstory that connected them to baseball. Others were completely made up, such as B.R. Poc, but they also got their own backstory. Part of the fun of the MBWBA and its earlier incarnation was that it was both completely made up AND running parallel to MLB. That is why there are players in the league such as Butch Huskey and rules that allow some real players to enter the league. Having them along side the made up players and "real" non-players is part of this particular league. It is part of the back story of the league itself as explained in the almighty Constipation.
Personally, I like having all three types of non-computer created players, but I am sure that Recte's time constraints have cut down on them in recent years.

Re: Off-Season Suggestions
A few weird names might be okay. But a league full of them (or even more than a dozen per league) would be extremely off-putting and not endear the league to some GMs.
Re: Off-Season Suggestions
Yeah I don't mind a name like Dr. Kenneth Noisewater that adds character to the league. I just don't like to see famous names in there. It's an escape for some people and real names associate people with the real world, which detracts from the experience. It also takes away from the realism factor.
Re: Off-Season Suggestions
I don't mind the goofy names. I think it's funny. I really enjoyed cutting Neil Patrick Harris in spring training this year. I mean it's not a critical thing.. I just think it's good to have some fun with it.

Re: Off-Season Suggestions
It's based on imagination. Do you really want to imagine Neil Patrick Harris playing 3B for your AAA team? Id rather it be serious and realistic. I signed Harris and he won a AAA title playing 3B for me, but it's farcical to have the guy out there playing for a AAA team.nverhoev wrote:I don't mind the goofy names. I think it's funny. Re: Off-Season Suggestions
Not a big fan of real names either. Though, some of the players name puts a smile on my face once in a while.

Re: Off-Season Suggestions
I don't mind some of the real names. Oddly, the only ones that bother me are the Real Players. THe celebs don't bother me much at all. Some do like Rob Vanwinkle, Mark Paul Gossellar, Neil Patrick, etc. These guys are mostly b-list celebs and have not business in the league. We are a top notch league and deserve names like Jack Nicholson, Sean Connery, and of course Keanu Reeves. These are the celebs we should be using. Seriously, it doesn't bother me much to have them, but I think it should be highly limited, too many shows lack of imagination. We need more guys like Johnny Ice, Dino Black, etc. these are all fully made up and show imagination and can allow someone to have a real bond with a player. Additionally, I think the players that the owners make up should be allowed to be signed by the owner who creates them first.
Oh, and I'm all for the minor moves

Add fellow TMAPC import Fernando Tornado to next year's draft, along with other classics such as Phan Ta, Mike Rofoen, Chick N. Planck, A. Scrub, A. Roidd, Hugh Mangrouthormon, etc., etc. The more religious may not care as much for B.L. Zebub or M.F. Stopholes.jkloes1 wrote:I don't mind some of the real names. We've got loads more where that came from. I think the twins Johnny Ice and Bud Ice should definitely join the league, though.

BTW, Zebub's first name is Bennett and Stopholes' is Morton, so you can see why they go by their initials instead...

The "Toledo Metro Area Posse Coalition", the greatest BBPro league of all time. What would a guy with 99 contact, no power, and 99 speed do? Or a pitcher with a 99 fastball, slider, and curve but a 3 changeup? They're all in the TMAPC!LambeauLeap wrote:TMAPC?

Re: Off-Season Suggestions
What about a relief pitcher (the best TMAPC reliever of all time) who has a rating of 0, thats ZERO endurance? Oh yeah, he once had a 13 inning 25 strikeout relief appearance. And his name is Rolaids. Just ... Rolaids. Gotta love BBPro98.
As for more crazy names, two seasons ago in that league I drafted a guy named "R.U." Rediforsumfutbal. That's Roy Underhill** to you. As for minor league team names, how about the Lebanon (Indiana) Terrorists? The Compton (California) Little Gangsters? The Tire Hill (Pennsylvaina) Aquatreads, Thermopolis (Wyoming) Meltdown, and the Scobey (Montana) Snacks?
