Free Agency Discussion
How is there not ONE single decent middle reliever on the whole market... AGAIN?
sigh....
In other news, I think I may try taking some fliers on geriatrics (Huerta, et al.) to plug holes in my lineup. Anyone else have any big plans for the crop of has-beens and never-weres?

Re: Free Agency Discussion
I could use a catcher, but I don't think I want to throw out a ton of cash and surrender a draft pick for one.

Re: Free Agency Discussion
Big Plans? I dont know about BIG plans. BIG salaries and moderate plans maybe. Even if I signed a guy like Dempsey or Butt, im not sure he will start every day over Rogerson.agrudez wrote:How is there not ONE single decent middle reliever on the whole market... AGAIN?

And I have a pretty solid rotation, so not sure I need a guy like Nichols, who although he has GREAT stats, only has 2 real pitches. I might move POY Price (http://baseballretrospective.com/MBBA/O ... _8505.html) if I went after this guy.
Huerta, I can certaily use his bat and defense, or at least what his bat and defence were. He is 39 and only played in 45 games last year. Not sure I can expect him to really contribute.
There are a couple other that interest me (1B Kern for example)
So I dont know. All I know is that I have $65M that I have to spend, or I lose it. So might as well take a shot at these guys...and a couple EBA guys as well!
Re: Free Agency Discussion
I'll be bidding on Nichols. I'm afraid that he might cost a lot after it's all said and done though. If anybody need a starting catcher, holla at me.

Re: Free Agency Discussion
The free agency compensation system that we will be using starting this year involves no losing of draft pick for signing any free agent. Instead, the team whose free agent is signed gains a pick.Cliche wrote:I could use a catcher, but I don't think I want to throw out a ton of cash and surrender a draft pick for one.
Hmmm... Maybe you haven't seen the new financial plan that was rolled out three weeks ago:

Whoops. Thanks for the link! I hadn't seen that. I thought we were just employing the OOTP system when I saw the "Type A" and "Type B" listings.Al-Hoot wrote:The free agency compensation system that we will be using starting this year involves no losing of draft pick for signing any free agent. I had the same thought. I've never been in a league where middle relief is so tough to obtain...agrudez wrote:How is there not ONE single decent middle reliever on the whole market... AGAIN?

Re: Free Agency Discussion
Those guys are elite hence they never hit free agency til they are well past prime. Although these new financial changes might just start convincing some owners to let a few of those guys go.

Re: Free Agency Discussion
It's probably a result of the financials to be honest - most teams, in most leagues, when they have to make tough financial decisions, the MR's are the first to go....
