EBA Players Rights Draft Discussion

Post by agrudez » Tue Apr 09, 2013 3:34 pm

Anyone else very excited about this? Maybe it is just the novelty of a new toy, but I'm definitely eagerly anticipating Thursday's sim now. How long is everybody's lists? I have 6 (3 good players, 2 okay players and 1 flier) on mine... which obviously has me anxious since I'm picking 7th, haha.

I think I found one 'steal' (in a loose definition of the term) that I'll be willing to overpay big time in FA even if he is picked before me.

I've only got one submission thus far. It's yours.

I'm very excited about this as well, I'm hoping to make my list tonight. Looks like a slower evening than usual here at work which will allow me some time to peruse the EBA. I like that this can give some of the lower tier teams a chance at some good players.

I didn't notice or see if there was a deadline on putting in the selection, is this the only opening we have to make a pick or can we wait until further down the road?

In future years we'll have the entire Playoff time to do this.

To be fair you announced it midseason... plenty of time, imo (especially since you're using the Rule 5 method with the lists and such).

I think your PPTs carry over (or partly) from the previos owner. Check the consitution. Matt said everyone had PP and $ this year.

You get 50% of Nigel's PPs AFAIK. Check the spreadsheet out here, it says you have 60 PP to play with.

You have 60 PPs. This is because new GMs inherit half of the balance of the GM they are replacing.

(And half are saved for that GM for 2 seasons, in case they return.)

Can't say I'm too excited about it... spent all my ppts on Chris Pump anyway.

I'll just be signing the regular FA's while everyone else is wrapped up in the EBA guys.
GM, 2051, 2053, and 2058 JL WILDCARD Phoenix Talons (2029-??), BBA
CARETAKER GM, 2053 GBC CHAMPION Tokyo Pearls (2053 - 2063)
GM, THE GREATEST MINOR LEAGUE TEAM OF ALL TIME 2062 Toledo Liberty (124-16)

The way i understand this thing is that, although you can't get the rights to match a contract (since you don't have the PPs), you can still offer and attempt to sign any player whose rights have been bought out. It's just the GM who bought the player out gets the right to match the contract he accepts from another team. In doing so, he has to sign the player for the exact same contract (years and dollars and bonuses and etc) that he signs for another team...at least this is how I think it works...someone who is more financially adept could verify or correct this.

This was the one thing I was wondering as well, does it have to be the exact same contract or just the same value? Can the matched contract be tweaked in any way? As an example if given a 4 year contract worth $40 Million but layed out like 7-9-11-13 could we instead make it 10 a year or any other combo as long as the total value is the same?

Didn't realize I got half of the departing GM's PPTs.

Sweet. I will take a look tonight and see what I can see...

Exact same contract. So, there could be some "poison pills" here, we'll have to keep an eye on that. Don't make me legislate another rule.
