Question regarding one of my players - Chris Coll

Post by indiansfan » Mon Jul 09, 2012 12:36 pm

I've only been playing OOTp for about a year and this is the first time this has happened to one of my players. Chris Coll has taken a complete dive over the past season and a half. He is now down to about half his potential at the age of 32. Last season I tried resting him, tried playing him every day, tried to send him to the minors ( he refused) and nothing halted the skid. By the end of last season he had lost all of his position ratings. At this point I am looking for info and suggestions. Is there any chance a guy like this will come back at all? If so what should I do to facilitate a comeback? Or is he just done and I need to release him and eat his contract.

Wow, no defensive ratings anywhere?!?!? Sorry....that's rough. I'll leave it to the OOTP vets to offer more informed suggestions, but based on my relatively limited experience as well, I'd say kick him to the curb.

Wow, that is unreal. I feel for you as he was a stud a few years back. I don't have any experience in anything this drastic. I did have some younger players (24/25) that took a huge step backwards and never recovered but I have not seen that happen to a guy like Coll. The odd thing is his potential is still through the roof. Crazy man!

If he had any position ratings I would keep him on the roster as a sub even if they were bad but no ratings left at all. The only option I can think of is to give him a ton of playing time in spring training and see if he gets rated again. Don't want to release him now as he would suck up most of my cash and make it difficult to sign draft picks.

The losing of his position ratings at this age is pretty odd. The decline in skills is most likely due to his countless injuries over time.

We call these "lumps". Lumps are when a players ratings drop. Ratings usually drop like this when either player ages or gets injured. Some players aren't affected by injuries. Some, like Coll unfortunately, seem to take hits in his ability after injuries.

Unfortunately, I've never seen a player recover once his ratings start to drop. Coll is likely a black hole on your roster now. Its a shame to. As you can see, he was a top player in the league for a few years.

Best you can hope for is to perhaps hide him away in the DH spot
