I've effectively "wasted" my morning making a new report built off game log data. In this case, it's a table of shortstops across the whole of the BBA, and their BIP and Out conversions by Zone.
I'm posting the whole thing here so you too can waste big parts of the day trying to decide if your shortstops were really any good or not.
Lucky you!
Bottom line, the file has every player who played even an inning at shortstop, and lists first by each SS zone, GB in Zone, GB Converted into outs, and then a simple % conversion. I considered taking out the "56" zones (between 3B and SS) simply because they are clouded by the performance of the 3B, but I've left them in there for now simply because you might be able to think of a way to use it. [LEARNING OF THE WEEK: the 3B is the fielder of record on 60-70% of GB in those zones, especially shallow and mid...which makes sense to me].
Anyway, I've had fun staring at it. Maybe you will, too.

It's always seemed intuitive to me that the more range your shortstop has (i.e., the better he is defensively), the less your 3B needs to have (i.e., defensive requirement for 3B can dip)
