Dominican Republic Win Championship Round
Dominican Republic studied their way to the top.

Led by notorious strategist and manager Iván Reyes, Dominican Republic came prepared to today's championship game and left with a title. Outfoxing their opponents in all facets of the game, Dominican Republic defeated Mexico today by the final score of 14-2, sending overjoyed players and fans streaming onto the field.

"We were prepared for Mexico," Reyes said after the game. "We spent a lot of time studying everyone on their roster and figuring out how to play them, and you could see the results on the field."

The Robins win 9 of our last 12(2 of the 3 losses by one run) and will start the season with good momentum. We lost Lawrence Hernandez to TJ surgery. Lawrence pitched decently for us last year following a late season trade. This spring he stepped it up a notch and looked primed for a break out season as a lefty specialist/spot starter. Oh well.

We did manage to add Phillip Morris. Morris was readily available via trade all last season and about 10 different times I kicked the idea around. Then he hit free agency and I circled his name yet again. I almost put in an offer around 3 years $6-7 million at one point. I decided against it feeling that the league consensus was correct... he may have one foot off the cliff. But at one year, less the #2 mil.. why not? I think he has a good year or 2 left. I'm not real confident in that, but for the money it's worth a shot.

The one negative of this signing is that it throws a monkey wrench in my pitching platoon plan. While I still plan to shuffle the deck as much as possible to gain even the slightest edge in matchups, If Morris' 2031 was merely an off year, he's a solid mid rotation pitcher at worst. So Morris, Castillo, and Morales would eat a lot of the starts. That leaves just 2 spots(64 starts) left in the rotation as opposed to 3 spots(96). You can add a couple of more starts as I plan on using a 6 man rotation often. Basically, it won't be as much of a circus as previously thought. But if Morris continues his 2031 trend, it's back to the original plan.

Jorge Stanza has not thrown a pitch at the ML level since 2030 when he had one of the best seasons in this era and won the Nebraska award. He will once again miss most of this season. Having not pitched in 2 seasons has not only really tied our hands because of his salary, but it looks like it could cost him a spot in the HOF. He would have +200 wins in his career if he had pitched in 2031 & this season.

So Morris, Castillo, and Morales would eat a lot of the starts. That leaves just 2 spots(64 starts) left in the rotation as opposed to 3 spots(96). You can add a couple of more starts as I plan on using a 6 man rotation often. Basically, it won't be as much of a circus as previously thought. But if Morris continues his 2031 trend, it's back to the original plan.

I would have liked to add Morris as another lefty insurance policy. With the oft-injured Crow being my only lefty in the rotation, I wanted a few lefties who could be used out of the pen and step in as a spot starter if he was hurt.
