Yeah, it's just gaming the game and it's pretty egregious so I laughed. We used to have rules preventing this sort of thing. Not sure what happened to them. I think I was posting about this not too long ago in a conversation with Ron. It was something along the lines of the last year of the contract couldn't be more than 50% of the total average. This was years ago though, so I likely have that completely incorrect.

Re: 2040, Spring Training Sim #1 Chatter
I don't mind the AAV variance on Garcia (I have done some wacky ones myself) but the 750 PA vesting option is a bit extreme. This might be something the GB looks at going forward but to my knowledge we have nothing on the books against it now.

Sorry, didn't think it was quite as crazy as it apparently is, since I routinely put 700 in offers before. Happy to have it reduced. Not that it matters, he'll never hit the vesting number as long as it's above 600.

I would welcome official guidelines on offers so I don't have to feel bad about doing something that isn't against any rules.

On a different note, psyched to bring gillstrom back for 1 year. I had a bunch of money to burn and while I would have loved to dump it on a pitcher, there were not any left.

Re: 2040, Spring Training Sim #1 Chatter
I wish the game would just track bad faith offers like this and have it effect our GM reputation. Throwing out a bunch of vesting options that are literally impossible to meet and declining too many team options should make free agents leery to talk to you. We wouldn’t need to police any of this then.

I don't think it makes much difference, if any at all. I'm fine for putting some rules in if the gang is angsty about it, but it seems like administrative hassle for limited/no gain.

Re: 2040, Spring Training Sim #1 Chatter
Shaw's question above is the right one, though. Did other folks have better offers on the table for Garcia? I admit I've watched him most every year, and it's routine for him to start high and drop his price a ton in the end.

Re: 2040, Spring Training Sim #1 Chatter
That would be my expectation. The dev's are quite adamant that options and bonuses like that get down graded to the point of being nearly ignored. Not a hill I'd die on, though.

I was in on him early, but withdrew my last offer (2 x $10M AAV - $12.5M/$7.5M) two sims ago.

I did. Don't remember the exact terms but I believe it was north of 2/20.

If you guys set parameters, you can set them in S+ and it will keep a list of illegal contracts. It covers just about every contract option. It's a nice feature.usnspecialist wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 10:09 pmI don't mind the AAV variance on Garcia (I have done some wacky ones myself) but the 750 PA vesting option is a bit extreme. You can also grandfather previous contracts, which I would probably do unless they are egregious, like this case.

Yes. I think that happens...a guy asking for $12 rejects $10, then later regrets it.
The question I think is more relevant when it comes to "did the bonuses/options make a difference" is dependent upon what was on the table this sim. If you withdrew it, it's no longer in the conversation.

Were these active offers in the sim he signed with Louisville? If they were, then it's an indicator that the bonus/option additions made a difference. If they clearly do make that kind of difference I want to report it, because the OOTP guys are quite firm in their claim that players essentially ignore those kinds of offers.JimBob2232 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 4:07 amI had an offer for Garcia too...but honestly I don’t know what it was.

are you implying that the OOTP team is occasionally full of shit... Say it isnt so!!!RonCo wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 12:18 pmYes. I think that happens...a guy asking for $12 rejects $10, then later regrets it.
