I am sorry that I have not been active and writing.
I just want to take a few minutes to apologize to the league for my lack of team news this year. When I came back last season after a 1-year hiatus, I had every intention to come back strong, but one thing came up after another and this really unfortunately took a back door. I still managed to "manage" the team and export, but that was almost the extent of it. I wasn't very active on the boards or discord which was not intentional. I am asking for a "pass" this past year on my activity.
A quick peek into what has been going on:
1.) A family friend (who is like a younger brother to me) was rushed to the Denver hospital a few weeks ago by plane (roads were closed due to the snowstorm and helicopters could not fly due to the extreme cold). He had a high fever and then a very low temp, and was seen at the local hospital where he lives in Nebraska before going home. After having several seizures, he was rushed to Denver. He is currently on a vent and in a medically induced coma as they attempt to "restart his brain" because the seizures have continued and had to be medically stopped. They have tested for almost everything, with everything coming back negative. It's a 50% chance they will never figure out what it is. They have said he is looking at a minimum 3-4 month stay and will likely have to relearn all his cognitive abilities again, best case. I didn't mention that he is 13 years old, and my kids are obviously very concerned about their friend. With all of this, I have been in Denver the past few weeks on and off, flying home and flying back several times.
2.) I am also personally having some health issues that I don't feel like disclosing too much, just because I don't want people to feel sorry for me. There are bigger things in the world. It started a few months ago, and I have been dealing with it through the other obstacles in life, and will continue to do so.
Long story short, I am sorry I did not write anything, but be assured there will be writing this coming up season.

So sorry to hear about the personal stuff. While the league can be a break from the real life trials and tribulations it certainly cannot, and shouldn't, replace them. Do what you need to do, we'll be here for you. Hoping for a full recovery for your friend.

I’m sorry to hear that brother. 2023 was just one of those years for a lot of people. It was certainly the worst year of my life on several fronts, especially towards the end of the year. I’ll be keeping you in my prayers and we will be excited when you do return to full capacity, but don’t rush it.

I was thinking about your discord post a while back when we all urged you to get to the doctor and was going to check in but didn't want to pry. Wishing you good health and a full recovery for your friend.

No harm or shame in dialing things back a bit in this league. Participation ebbs and flows for each of us, it all evens out in the big scheme of things.

Re: I am sorry that I have not been active and writing.
As someone who has gone through quite a bit the last 12-18 months myself, I understand where you're coming from Justin. My middle son lost a teammate who collapsed during basketball practice (I was the one who administered CPR) and then another friend/teammate to a 4-wheeler accident less than 6 months later. Both boys were 13-14 years old.
If you need someone to talk to, feel free to shoot me a message. What makes this league/group great is I think we all realize you're an asset here but things at home come first.
