Soft trade market?
Soft trade market?
I see there are a lot of teams contending this year for the playoffs. The trade blocks seems to have a lot of rebuilding teams shopping players (yes me included) looking for some prospects and not really many winning teams looking to add players. Just wondering if we will see a flurry of activity at the deadline or will the contenders stand pat with their rosters and pass on adding extra pieces, even if they are short term rentals.

Re: Soft trade market?
I agree (as you know via PM). There are 12 teams in the hunt for a division title. I don't have enough experience to say this is a conservative league as far as trades go, but it's never really been "free wheeling" either. I completed a trade a couple of seasons ago with Des Moines that was prospect for prospect (there may have been some added minor league pieces) and had no immediate impact on our ML rosters. Matt or Aaron commented that they'd like to see more trades like this and I agree.
After you brought it up, Rob, I thought about looking at the distribution of talent in the league to see if the gap between the top and bottom teams is so large that the bottom teams have nothing to offer (that sounded more dramatic than I intended...I simply mean that if the best player I can offer to boost a playoff contender is a 34-year-old 4-star outfielder and a contender that loses an outfielder to injury has a 2.5-star minor leaguer then it's not worth them giving up a prospect).

Re: Soft trade market?
Thanks for the reply. Looking around I have noticed the same, meaning that I don't have any "wow" players to trade. With the minor league systems of most teams, there simply aren't a glut of prospects to be tossed around on a rental or flawed talent it seems.
Still holding out hope I can move some guys before they walk in free agency.

Re: Soft trade market?
I'm looking for a specific "type" of player that really isn't available right now.
Injuries have made the trade market not really soft, per se, but more realistic.

I think part of it is its been the same teams going for the title these past few seasons. One can only make so many trades before the farm starts to run dry.

I've been pretty active behind the scenes, waiting for the right deals to happen. I think there's a lot of clubs like that right now. Hard to tell because we've been rather quiet this season/

Re: Soft trade market?
I have been working several trade discussions with multiple teams, just waiting to hear back on a few before I pull some triggers.

Re: Soft trade market?
Well, I know for me, I've done some pretty big deals over the past few seasons, and am just now starting to get a feel for what I am really in the need for (ie. I need pitching...losing Vanness hurt bad). But, I do agree with the above comment about some of the top tier farm systems being dry. I spent a lot to get my team where it is, but with my system as bare as it is now, I am having trouble dealing any of my remaining prospects for mid-tier talent.

Injuries? What are those? Oh yeah, just look at my club. I have 78 homeruns on the shelf right now for over a month. Come on Omaha... Make a move. This is your chance!recte44 wrote:I'm looking for a specific "type" of player that really isn't available right now.
