Moscow, Russia: 40,000 fans packed the Bears Den for the home opener versus the Sydney Sharks.
Game 1
Hud Bannon struggled in his first start for the Thunder Bears, giving up four runs in the top of the 1st as the Sharks feasted on his mediocre stuff. He was pulled after four innings, giving way to newly acquired relief pitcher Tae-kyun Yi, who pitched five scoreless innings while surrendering only two hits and recording his first win as a Thunder Bear.
Final: Moscow 6 - Sydney 5
Game 2
Fans that attended Game 2 were treated to extra innings. After Moscow scored 2 in the 1st and Sydney scored 2 in the 2nd, the game remained scoreless heading into the bottom of the 12th inning. Blake McCoy doubled with 1 out and Maximilian Nielsson was intentionally walked.
Right fielder Adil bin Lahab singled to center on a 1-0 count, scoring McCoy from 2nd as he raced home just ahead of the throw.
Final: Moscow 3 - Sydney 2
Game 3
The rubber match saw another walk-off win for the Thunder Bears. Tied 1-1 in the bottom of the 9th, Carlos Arroyo doubled to right field. Backup 2nd baseman Wilson Rosa singled, sending Arroyo to thrid, and Adil bin Lahab walked on five pitches. With the bases loaded, catcher Blake McCoy worked the count full.
Hassan bin Zuhair glanced at the runner on 3rd and then back to home plate. 20,000 fans on their feet chanting "THUNDER...THUNDER...THUNDER!" waving Thunder Bear flags to distract the Sydney reliever.
The wind-up, the pitch....ball 4 outside, game over. Moscow walks it off with an anticlimactic base on balls.
