(Moscow, Russia: Bear Den)
The Moscow Thunder Bears joined the Global Baseball Consortium (GBC) at the start of the 2059 season and were able to make the playoffs in their 2nd season with the positive trends continuing for the team during the 2061 season as they currently have a record of 80-59.
Despite their success on the field the organization has struggled to find a solid identity off of the field. The marketing team has struggled to find a foothold with the fans when they are away from the diamond but in spite of it, the team has enjoyed success with getting the fans in to the seats.
The team has also seen its fair share of shakeups in the front office as well throughout its young life. The team has been operating under a make-shift front office since the previous General Manager resigned from the team and the offices felt the chill of another Siberian clipper blasting through the complex.
But late last week there was a flurry of activity as the offices were spruced up to possibly welcome another General Manager to steer the Moscow Thunder Bears organization as they continue to fight for a post-season spot for the 2061 season. Romanian owner, Razvan Carstea, was seen roaming the halls before heading to the airport to take to the skies in the team private jet to bring this hoped-for Manager to Moscow.
He landed in the early hours of this morning and tried to help his tired passenger maneuver through the confusing maze of checkpoints and kiosks, and hopefully avoid the gathering reporters, to find the car to take them to the rented villa that was to be the home to the new Thunder Bears General Manager.
The gathered throng were left almost speechless when they realized the "new" face was an old face around the GBC world. Jesse Stollings, of Sao Paulo and a double-stint at Jerusalem infamy...has been hired to be the new guiding voice of the Bears. The rumors that have swirled around why Stollings had left his previous stints in the league are beyond count. But the reality is, he is now the new General Manager for Moscow.
Stollings stopped his determined march towards the exit and turned to face the silenced throng of reporters. "I have to prove I deserve this job. I have to prove it to you, the fans, the players, and most importantly, to myself. I get that." "It starts Day 1, so know that I realize what I am up against."
"So lets start with something new, well, a couple of things. First off, their will be regularly scheduled press releases. These releases will now go by the name of "You Have Been Thunderstruck!" Yea, I think it rocks as well! Also, to build the team identity and establish a legacy here in Moscow I have decided to establish a Hall of Fame. The 1st class will be inducted at the end of the current season...and be known as the Thunderdome. The induction ceremonies will be known as Welcome to the Thunderdome."
"But first things first, let's play some baseball!"
With that emphatic statement Stollings turned and was out of the exit and in the car before the full impact of what he had just said had fully sunk in. If nothing else, the smiles on the faces of the group of reporters showed that a different attitude had just taken over the Thunder Bears front office.
