A new level of futility (2047-30)

Nothing left to say

Our record in the final week of May, June & July now stands at 1-19, this week we excelled ourselves with a 0-7 week. We can’t better that unless we manage to slip in some rainout double-header losses too. The ultimate ignominy is being swept at home by Cairo, a team that is supposed to be as bad as us. Clearly not though as they have won the season series with us 5-1. A thirteen-game homestand has just been wasted after we won just four of the games and are now on course to lose over 110 games this season. The fans are running away in their droves too, the series with Cairo set not once but twice the new lowest ever record attendance for the Red Crescents. That now stands at 10,644 after our final game of 2047 with the Pharaohs.

July did see one landmark passed though, on Friday 5th, Riyadh beat Baghdad 9-8 for the Red Crescents 100th ever victory, it might be a long time before we reach the 200 mark While the highpoint for a Riyadh pitcher is still five wins we do have a pitcher in the minors that has reached the dizzy heights of 10 wins, 24-yr-old Canadian Reginald Maher of the Double-A Santiago Tabaqueros now has a 10-8 record for 2047 after being picked up in the off season following his release from the Nashville organisation. Masaki Sato following his three homer effort in the previous week picked up his fourth UMEBA Player of the Week award, his first of 2047 though and the team’s second bauble of the season. 17-yr-old #1 Riyadh draft pick in 2046 might have slipped down to our fourth overall ranked prospect but he is slowly getting the hang of this pitching lark, after a 3-4 record with a 4.25 ERA in his rookie year at Taipei he now has a 4-0 record in his sophomore year and has shaved nearly two full points off his ERA. Top prospect, 21-yr-old Ivan Gulledge, acquired in a trade with Mumbai has drifted down to Double-A. He continues to be an absolute beast in the centre of the outfield defensively, but fails to get above .200 average with his bat, his career OPS+ through the various levels in the organisation drifts around 60-80.
