Desperation (& injury) changes (2047-31)

The abyss opens up

In the three weeks of August, I have been missing, the abyss has well and truly opened and we are staring at taking the crown of the worst ever UMEBA team (during the 162 game era), currently held by the ’46 Pharaohs who managed just 53 wins. After our inaugural 70 win season we have flipped flopped with Cairo and are currently on pace to win just around 52-53 games. Losing our last two games in Athens we have lost our last season winning record against anyone in the UMEBA. Our closest record now is 2-3 against Athens, 1-2 against Bucharest and 13-14 against Manama.

Sick of it all we have made a few changes, helped along by losing both our middle-infield combo until well into September. Clive Timberlake slides over from First to Second and the defensively-challenged Masaki Sato return to First. Up from Port Elizabeth is DH Martin McLeish for his UMEBA cup of coffee; he has hit 36 homers & 130 RBI in the last two seasons in Triple-A. Also up from the Windies is SS Burt Davies who hit just .104 last year in Riyadh, this year he’s been hitting .253 in Triple-A with 5 homers & 40 RBI. Altificio Roseta also has replaced Donnie Peacock as one of the backup outfielders. Desperate changes for a truly desperate team. Unfortunately there just isn’t any help from the minors for the pitching, so we just have to settle for yet another reshuffle. Francisco Cardona returns to the rotation where he started 19 games last year and Ch’ang-chieh Xin takes a turn as the Red Crescents stopper.

Our Rookie League team, the Chinese Taipei, have reached the post season for the first time ever after falling a game short in 2046 of the runners-up spot. This year their 44-24 record is good enough for second spot and they are currently in the one round play-off against Hong Kong, currently up 3-2 in the best of seven series. Zahir Khosa, the 2047 eighth round draft pick, rounded off his rookie season with a CBL Player of the Week award on the last week of the season.
